Section 12.7: The Koran on Christians and Jews?

One of the most important questions a Christian-Muslim couple has to address is if Jesus is a Son of God or one of the apostles. Readers are advised to read several chapters in the Koran on Christianity and Judaism. Here a brief summary is presented.

Christians believe that the Lord Jesus is (Son of) God and that faith in Jesus is important to achieve salvation and to enter into heaven (I John 4:2-3.). In contrast, the Koran teaches to have faith in Allah (God in Arabic). Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than God’s apostle (Koran 4:171. Also read Koran 4:157-160, 6:101, 9:30-31, 10:66-69, 17:111, 18:4-5, 21:26, 23:91, 25:2). Allah forbids that He Himself should beget a son!( Koran 19:34-35). Those who say: “the Lord of Mercy (Allah) has begotten a son” preach a monstrous falsehood (Koran 19:88-92) . Unbelievers are those that say: “God is the Messiah, the son of Mary” (Koran 5:72) and “God is one of three (trinity)(Koran 4:171, 5:73).” Unbelievers will get “Hell Fire.” Further, Allah said, “Believers, take neither Jews nor the Christians for your friends.”(Koran 5:51; translation by Dawood, Maulawi Sher Ali, Pickthall, Yusuf Ali, Shakir, Muhammad Sarwar, Mohsin Khan and Arberry)

Islamic Law permits a Muslim man to marry women from the People of the Book (that is, Christians and Jews) but all of the children must be brought up as Muslims. Muslim women are forbidden from marrying non-Muslim man. In effect, all children of any interfaith marriage involving a Muslim must be raised as Muslims.
