Section 12.6: The Koran on Hindus?

Section 12.6: The Koran on Hindus?

Christians and Jews are discussed in detail in several sections of Koran, but there is no direct mention of the word “Hindu” in the Koran.

You are an “unbeliever” or “disbeliever” if you believe in having the liberty to pray to multiple forms of God, associate other names of God with Allah (for example, Lord Krishna or Jesus, Son of God), are a worshiper of murtis or images, perform any kind of Hindu rituals (for example puja), do not believe that the heaven and earth were created in six days, do not believe in the Judgment Day, do not believe Mohammad as the “last” apostle or do not follow Islamic practices as cited in the Koran.

Selected verses from Koran about “unbelievers” are listed here as is, without any commentary or interpretation for interfaith couples to read and discover what these will mean for their future marriage.

  • 2:178 Believers, retaliation is decreed for you in bloodshed: a free man for a free man, a slave for a slave, and a female for a female. He who is pardoned by his aggrieved brother shall be prosecuted according to usage and shall pay him a liberal fine. This is a merciful dispensation from your Lord. He that transgresses thereafter shall be sternly punished. Men of understanding! In retaliation you have a safeguard for your lives; that you may enjoy security.
  • 2:191 Slay then wherever you find them. Drive them out of the places from which they drove you. Idolatry is more grievous than bloodshed.
  • 2:193 Fight against them until idolatry is no more and Allah’s religion reigns supreme.
  • 2:221 Marry not idolatrous women until they believe; even a beliving slave-woman is better than an idolatress, although she may highly please you. And give not believing women in marriage to idolaters until they believe; even a believing slave is better than an idolater, although he may highly please you. (This is the most critical statement for any one in an interfaith relationship with a Muslim. Ask that Muslim to explain you Koran 24:30
  • 3:117 O you who believe, take not for intimate friends others than your own people; they spare no pains to cause you loss. They love that which distresses you: Vehement hatred has already appeared from out of their mouths, and that which their hearts conceal is greater still.
  • 3:150 We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve because they set up with Allah that for which He has sent down no authority, and their abode is the Fire. And evil is the abode of the wrong-doers.
  • 4:3 If you fear that you cannot treat orphans (orphan girls) with fairness, you may marry other women who seem good to you: two, three or four of them. But if you fear that you cannot maintain equality among them, marry only one or any slave-girls you own.
  • 4:56 Those who disbelieve in Our Messages, we shall make them enter Fire. As often as their skins are burned, We shall change them for other skins, that they may taste the chastisement. Surely Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.
  • 4:91 You will find others who desire to be secure from you and secure from their own people. Whenever they are made to return to hostility, they are plunged into it. So if they withdraw not from you, nor offer you peace and restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them. And against these We have given you a dear authority.
  • 5:33 The only punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is that they should be murdered, or crucified, or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides, or they should be imprisoned.
  • 8:12 Allah revealed His will to the angels, saying: “I shall be with you. Give courage to the believers. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers!”
  • 9:5 So when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters, wherever you find them, and take them captive and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush.
  • 9:23: O you who believe, take not your fathers and your brothers for friends if they love disbelief above faith. And whoever of you takes them for friends, such are the wrongdoers.
  • 9:28 Believers, surely, the idolaters are unclean.
  • 9:62 They swear by Allah to you to please you; and Allah as well as His Messenger has a greater right that they should please Him, if they are believers.
  • 22:19-22 Garments of fire have been prepared for the unbelievers. Boiling water will be poured upon their heads, melting their skins and that which is in their bellies. They shall be lashed with rods of iron. Whenever, in their anguish, they try to escape from Hell, back they shall be dragged, and will be told: “Taste the punishment of burning!”
  • 24:30 Say to believing men to turn their eyes away from temptation and to restrain their carnal desires. (Muslim men are not supposed to look at a woman with carnal desires. If they (Muslim boys) see a girl, they are supposed to lower their gaze. Also read Islamic Khalwat (close proximity) law in Malaysia in Section 2.15.3. For a “true” Muslim, interfaith love relationship is not possible unless the objective is love-jihad. To ask for religious conversion for marriage after years of romantic relationship is an ugly form of proselytization.)
  • 36:8-9 Surely We have placed on their necks chains reaching up to the chins, so they have their heads raised aloft. And We have set a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, thus We have covered them, so that they cannot see.
  • 42:23 I ask you only to love your kith and kin.
  • 44:45-54 Like murky oil or molten brass, like scalding water, it shall simmer in his belly. A voice will cry: “Seize him and drag him into the midst of Hell Fire. Then pour out scalding water over his head, saying: ‘Taste this, illustrious and honorable man! This is the punishment which you have doubted.’” As for righteous, they shall be lodged in peace together amid gardens and fountains, arrayed in rich silks and fine brocade. Even thus: and We shall wed them to dark-eyed houris (paradise of young attractive women).
  • 47:4-6 So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, smite the necks; then, when you have overcome them, make (them) prisoners, and afterwards (set them free) as a favour or for ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (shall be so). And if Allah please, He would certainly exact retribution from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will never allow their deeds to perish. He will guide them and improve their condition. And make them enter the Garden, which He has made known to them.
  • 47:22 If you renounced the Faith, you would surely do evil in the land and violate the ties of blood.
  • 47:23 Those it is whom Allah has cursed, so He has made them deaf and blinded their eyes.
  • 48:29 Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those with him are ruthless to the disbelievers but compassionate among themselves.
  • 60:4: We are clear of you and of that which you serve besides Allah. We disbelieve in you and there has arisen enmity and hatred between us and you forever until you believe in Allah alone.
  • 60:10 Do not maintain your marriage with unbelieving women.
  • 66:5 Maybe, his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you, submissive, faithful, obedient, penitent, adorers, fasters, widows, and virgins.
  • 72:14-15 And some of us are those who submit, and some of us are deviators. So whoever submits, these aim at the right way. And as to deviators, they are fuel of hell.
