Hinduism verses Islam

Here, an atheist Tenali and a woman and former-Hindu GIG, are comparing and contrasting two faiths. Let this page focus on rational comparison of two faiths and practices. This will certainly help Hindu-Muslim dating couples.

The reason why Islam is religion of the book is because its a God written book and is protected from any alterations from God Himself (otherwise do n’t you think there would be bad people who looked to alter it as per their liking)

Whereas the reason why Hinduism has needed radical changes was because its original texts have been interpolated and altered with time. Originally the bad practices that existed in Hinduism were no where mentioned in the old sacred texts

Though the Quran might have been written in the 7th century its worthy to be noted that its verses stand true even in the 21st century. -GIG

GIG – I don’t want to turn this site into a forum debating Islam Vs Hinduism. You mentioned you are a working woman hence I hope you can think rationally. You ponder over the following questions and keep your findings to yourself.

What is the evidence that Quran is a God written book?
– If we are all created by God, why does he need to divide us as believers and non-believers? Why can’t he grant wisdom to his own creations?
– If GOD is the judge on judgement day, why does he prescribe punishments in his own book? Why can’t he take care of these punishments on the judgement day instead of asking followers to execute them?

Islam is a religion of book where as Hinduism is not. Over a period of time, significant reforms happened in Hindu society to overcome the problems though it may not be perfect. I would love to see similar reforms in Islam. -Tenali

Dear admin,
Thanks for the effort, really look forward to mindful discussion on this post (and not copy pasted info like some posts below).

I would really like that people here ask lots and lots and lots of questions about Islam to gain knowledge and clear doubts and not just comment on things they have half information about. Because as the saying goes “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing” -GIG

Commentators, please make short comments. Instead of using a big “cut and paste”, just give reference URL and summarize details here.

In the above link Mr tenali claims to be a HINDU ATHEIST
I am disappointed to know he doesnot even know the meaning of atheist!!!
That explains all the biased comments.
Being a religious person I respect atheist for purely their rational thinking finding meaning for every existence and combining that with a religion own would expect the person to question his own religion a lot more than anything else
Or may be tenali did question his religion and thats what led to him deciding to totally disregard the existence of any god, thats why he has now moved to to greener pastures with his skewed logic to apply to but still calls himself hindu atheist (whatever that is), one would think he would atleast get all the explanations in hinduism first but seems he is more interested in islam than anything else so he is not even an atheist in pure sense but just a lost n confused hindu who doesnot know what ritual or caste or community or ethinicity to follow. So you are welcome to discovering islam, may Allah guide you

    Slavery in the Koran

It is to the Koran that we have to go to find Muhammad’s attitude to slavery. The subject is treated at many places in the Koran. We shall consider some of these statements in the order that they appear in the Koran, quoting the relevant part of the verse concerned(8).

    (i) Sura 2 (The Cow) Verse 178

2.178: O you who believe! retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the slain, the free for the free, and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female, but if any remission is made to any one by his (aggrieved) brother, then prosecution (for the bloodwit) should be made according to usage, and payment should be made to him in a good manner; this is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy; so whoever exceeds the limit after this he shall have a painful chastisement.

Retaliation for murder and other crimes was sanctioned by Arabian usage and accepted by Muhammad. Here it is said that a free(man) could be killed for the murder of a free(man) and similarly for a (free) woman and a slave. The mention of these three categories quite casually indicates that slavery is accepted along with the other two categories as an acceptable state for a human being. What is not clear is whether the person put to death is the person responsible for the killing. While this may be true of free persons this is not necessarily true of slaves. Thus if a slave is killed then it is not the killer of the slave that has to be killed but a slave of the killer! What this shows is that slaves are treated as pure merchandise of the slave owner. If a slave is killed then it is a loss to its owner and the retaliation for this is the killing of a slave belonging to the offender. Of course the slave killed may be quite innocent.

Of course it may be argued that the free people may have been responsible for the crime but to a kill an innocent slave for the crime of his master is truly a perversion of justice. The casual way in which slaves as a category of humans are mentioned along with free men and women in the application of this law shows that Muhammad completely accepted the slave status of humans to be a perfectly normal status.

(ii) Sura 4 (The Women), Verse 92.

4.92: And it does not behoove a believer to kill a believer except by mistake, and whoever kills a believer by mistake, he should free a believing slave, and blood-money should be paid to his people unless they remit it as alms; but if he be from a tribe hostile to you and he is a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (suffices), and if he is from a tribe between whom and you there is a covenant, the blood-money should be paid to his people along with the freeing of a believing slave; but he who cannot find (a slave) should fast for two months successively:

This verse has been adduced by Muslim apologists who claim that Muhammad urged the general freeing of slaves. This is certainly not the case. What this verse tells is that manslaughter (killing by mistake) of a Muslim (presumably by another Muslim) could be paid for by freeing one slave for each act of manslaughter. The freeing of the slave is a kind of penalty imposed on the offending Muslim for his act of manslaughter. It could be compared to imposing a fine on the person. Slaves are seen as a kind of legal tender – instead of being fined for the misdemeanor the offender is forced to free a slave. Surely this is a far cry from a requirement that slaves should be freed as a general principle.

To free a slave the person concerned must own slaves; this Sura therefore assumed implicitly that slavery is permitted in the Koran. There are some peculiarities that deserve notice. It is only a “believing slave” (i.e a slave who is a Muslim) that can be freed. A non-Muslim slave does not have even this route of escape from slavery. This verse is laying down penalties for killing, not trying to free slaves.

The verse also says that if a slave cannot be found the punishment is a two month fast(9). This is perhaps a case of extending the fast at Ramadan from one to two months. It gives some idea of the value attached to a slave in Islam.

(iii) Sura 5 (The Dinner Table), Verse 89

5.89: Allah does not call you to account for what is vain in your oaths, but He calls you to account for the making of deliberate oaths; so its expiation is the feeding of ten poor men out of the middling (food) you feed your families with, or their clothing, or the freeing of a neck; but whosoever cannot find (means) then fasting for three days; this is the expiation of your oaths when you swear; and guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His communications, that you may be Fateful.

The expression “freeing of a neck” in this verse has been cited by some Muslim apologists as showing that Muhammad urges slave-owners to free their slaves. This does nothing of the sort. In the first place it is not clear whether the phrase in question refers to slavery at all. It could refer to the freeing of a man condemned to capital punishment,(10) because under Islam the relatives if the dead man can waive the execution of the murderer for a sum of money. Even if considered as freeing a slave it is another penalty for a transgression (the making of a deliberate oath), As in Sura 4.92 we are looking at penalties for various infringements (manslaughter, oaths) and the setting-free of a slave is used as a kind of payment or retribution for offence dealt with.

This kind of penalty can be prescribed only if slavery is permitted as a legal institution, which it is in Islam. This kind of penalty can even be considered as encouraging slavery as people might think it prudent to have a stock of slaves so that they can be used to pay off various penalties.

(iv) Sura 12 (Yusuf), Verses 29-30

12.29: O Yusuf! turn aside from this; and (O my wife)! ask forgiveness for your fault, surely you are one of the wrong-doers.

12.30: And women in the city said: The chief’s wife seeks her slave to yield himself (to her), surely he has affected her deeply with (his) love; most surely we see her in manifest error.

This is the story of the slave Joseph who was bought by a person simply described as an Egyptian. The Egyptian’s wife tried to induce the slave to have sexual relations with her, which though tempted Joseph resisted. The Egyptian believed the slave and asked the wife to apologize. This is only important as highlighting the complex relations that developed between slaves and their owners. In Islam male owners of slaves were entitled to have sexual relations with their slave women whether the women liked it or not, but this incident shows that the reverse was not necessarily true. It is perhaps another example of the discriminatory treatment of women as against men.

    (v) Sura 16 (The Bee), verse 71

16.71: And Allah has made some of you excel others in the means of subsistence, so those who are made to excel do not give away their sustenance to those whom their right hands possess so that they should be equal therein; is it then the favor of Allah which they deny?

This requires that those Muslims who are better off should share some of their “subsistence” with their slaves. While this is a good maxim it presupposes that the ownership of slaves is a normal state of affairs.

(vi) Sura 16 (The Bee), verse 75

16.75 Allah sets forth a parable: (consider) a slave, the property of another, (who) has no power over anything, and one whom We have granted from Ourselves a goodly sustenance so he spends from it secretly and openly; are the two alike? (All) praise is due to Allah!

This is one of the clearest instances where the institution of slavery is justified in the Koran as a divine dispensation. It deserves close scrutiny. This “parable” contrasts two people a slave who is owned by another and is completely powerless and a freeman on whom Allah has granted “a goodly sustenance” which he can spend openly or secretly as he pleases (perhaps acquiring slaves for himself). Since Allah claims for himself the position of the granter of all benefits (or lack of them) both the freeman’s fortune and the slave’s misfortune are ultimately determined by Allah. By his rhetorical question “Are the two alike?” Muhammad is actually justifying the inequality between the slave and the freeman as if it was a natural thing. Thus a Muslim will have no compunctions or qualms in employing and exploiting slaves (subject only to any conditions that Muhammad may have imposed) because it is what Allah has ordained and “all praise is due to Allah”.

(vii ) Sura 23 (The Believers), Verses 1-6

23.1-6: Successful indeed are the believers, Who are humble in their prayers, And who keep aloof from what is vain, And who are givers of poor-rate, And who guard their private parts, Except before their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for they surely are not blameable.

This is the Sura which gives the slave owner the right of sexual access to u\his female slaves. The term “guarding the private parts” is a synonym for sexual intercourse, and it is said that this is not blameable if indulges with wives and slaves.

(viii) Sura 24 (The Light), Verse 31

24.31: And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known; and turn to Allah all of you, O believers! so that you may be successful.

This is the famous Sura enjoining the veiling of women.(11) Amongst those before whom the women need not be covered are slaves (who under included in those that “the right hand possess” a term that is used throughout in the Koran as a synonym for slaves). This is probably because slaves were such a common occurrence in Muslim households that they are taken for granted and women need not use the dress code prescribed for outside wear while they are at home even in front of their slaves.

(ix) Sura 24 (The Light), Verse 32

24.32: And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and your female slaves; if they are needy, Allah will make them free from want out of His grace; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.

This is said to sanction marriages of slaves with slaves and slaves with free persons (including the owner). Owners did not usually marry slaves as they could use them for sexual purposes at will. This dispensation has been used to make slaves marry other slaves. In Islam a child born to a slave couple also is a slave from birth, so this verse gives a great incentive to slave owners to breed slaves. This is another obnoxious aspect of Islamic slavery. Whatever be the other circumstances in which people are made into slaves to make a new-born infant a slave is one of the most cruel and callous. Ye this did not evoke a protest from the Prophet and has been extensively resorted to by Muslims.

    (x) Sura 24 (The Light), Verse 33

24.33: And let those who do not find the means to marry keep chaste until Allah makes them free from want out of His grace. And (as for) those who ask for a writing from among those [slaves] whom your right hands possess, give them the writing if you know any good in them, and give them of the wealth of Allah which He has given you; and do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, when they desire to keep chaste, in order to seek the frail good of this world’s life; and whoever compels them, then surely after their compulsion Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

This is another verse often quoted by apologists for the Prophet. There are two references to slaves here. One is that a “good” slave could be freed by the slave owner.(12) However it is not a simple ex gratia freedom that is meant but one subject to a formal agreement (“writing”). This document lays down the conditions attached to the freeing of the slave, and usually involves the payment of a sum of money by the slave who is to be freed. Since a slave would not normally have a lot of money, someone else (perhaps a relative of the slave) has to put up the money, or the slave himself agrees to pay the money out of future income. What really happens is that the slave becomes an indentured worker for the former owner. How this can be described as complete freedom for the slave is difficult to see. It is simply a monetary transaction with the slave buying his own freedom, or somebody else doing it for him. It may actually be to the advantage of the slave-owner depending on the actual terms of the contract.

Even if no conditions are attached what this Sura says is that owners can free slaves who have been good slaves and not given any trouble. But slaves being the absolute property of their masters can be disposed of at the master’s will just as he can give away any other of his property. So this “dispensation” given in the Koran does not really amount to much; it cannot be seen as a move towards the elimination of slavery. There is no obligation for any slave owner to follow that is recommended in this Sura. There is also the question whether a “bad” slave can be freed even if the owner wants to free this slave subject to the stipulated conditions.

The verse also states that women slaves should not be used for prostitution. While we must be grateful to the Prophet for this tender mercy it must also be remembered that the Prophet did not restrict the master’s access to his female slaves for his own sexual gratification! This is the implication of this prohibition against prostitution; if the Prophet wanted to protect female slaves from sexual exploitation by their owners he would have said so. Nowhere is this restriction put on slave owners and they have liberally used this to their advantage.

(xi) Sura 33 (The Clans), Verse 50

33.50: O Prophet! surely We have made lawful to you your wives whom you have given their dowries, and those [slaves] whom your right hand possesses out of those whom Allah has given to you as prisoners of war, and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts who fled with you; and a believing woman if she gave herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet desired to marry her — specially for you, not for the (rest of) believers; We know what We have ordained for them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess in order that no blame may attach to you; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Here, as elsewhere, the term “possessions of the right hand” mean slaves. It is expressly stated that Muhammad’s slaves are given to him by Allah himself to be taken out of his share of the captives in war. It also records the special dispensation given to Muhammad, not available to other Muslims, in the number of wives(13).

(xii) Sura 39 (The Companions), Verses 29

39.29: Allah sets forth an example: There is a slave in whom are (several) partners differing with one another, and there is another slave wholly owned by one man. Are the two alike in condition? (All) praise is due to Allah. Nay! most of them do not know.

The example set out here compares joint ownership of a slave by many owners and the single ownership by one person. Muhammad asks rhetorically whether the two cases are the same. Of course they are not and it is clear that Muhammad prefers single ownership. In fact this is why he established the rule that after a military campaign the captives were allocated to each of his soldiers individually not collectively, with himself keeping a fifth of the captives as his personal slaves.

(xiii) Sura 70 (The Ways of Ascent) verses 29-35

70: 29-35 And those who guard their private parts, Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess — for these surely are not to be blamed, But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits — And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant And those who are upright in their testimonies, And those who keep a guard on their prayer, Those shall be in gardens, honored.

These verses are similar to Sura 23.93-96 and gives the right to slave owners to have sexual relation with female slaves. The only difference is that the earlier reference may leave some doubt as to whether both males and female slaves are meant. These verses clearly show that it is only female slaves that are meant.

    (xiv) Sura 90 (The City)

Sura 90. In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Nay! I swear by this city. And you shall be made free from obligation in this city — And the begetter and whom he begot. Certainly We have created man to be in distress. Does he think that no one has power over him? He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. Does he think that no one sees him? Have We not given him two eyes, And a tongue and two lips, And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? But he would not attempt the uphill road, And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? (It is) the setting free of a slave, Or the giving of food in a day of hunger To an orphan, having relationship, Or to the poor man lying in the dust. Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. These are the people of the right hand. And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. On them is fire closed over.

The meaning of this verse is very cryptic but has been made clearer by various commentators. The city is Mecca and this Sura is said to have been revealed after Muhammad’s taking of that city. The “I” in line 1 is Allah and the “you” in line 2 is Muhammad but there is some debate as whom “he” in line 4 means. Some take it to be al Walid Ebn al Mogheira, one of Muhammad’s Meccan opponents, others as Abu’l Ashadd Ebn Calsa, another opponent. Whoever this opponent may have been it is clear that he has not understood “the uphill path” which involves doing the things mentioned, one of which is the freeing of a slave. So this is similar to verse 24.33 considered earlier. It is good to free a slave, just as it is good to give to charity, but having slaves is not prohibited just as having money is not prohibited.

This Sura applies to the specific individual referred to as “he” and therefore cannot be taken as a general rule applying to all Muslims(14).

    (c) Aspects of Islamic Slavery

    (i) Recruitment of Slaves in Islam

We have already mentioned that newborn children could be recruited into Islamic slavery if the parents of the infant were slaves. But the most common method of getting slaves was capture (see Sura 33.50 given above). Sometimes this takes place on the battlefield, but as soldiers were usually men women could rarely be enslaved in this way. Thus in the Battle of Badr, the first of Muhammad’s victories, all the captives were males. Some of these captives were released after a bounty was paid by their relatives others were freed if they converted and joined Muhammad’s army

Males of mature age were not always desirable as slaves as the primary use of slaves in that pre-industrial society was to do domestic chores, and men did not excel in this. Thus Muslims always prized females not only because they could be used to do domestic work, but also because they could used to used to satisfy their carnal appetites of their owners and also be used as breeding stock to breed more slaves. Children were also prized because they could be converted into Islam by their captors without requiring their consent.

So in course of time the Prophet shifted his tactics and when an army was defeated the entire community which the army defended was enslaved. This ensured a supply of women and children the most prized of slaves. This was often combined with the wholesale slaughter of the men. The classic example of this is what the Prophet did after he defeated the Jewish tribe of Banu Quraiza. All 700 men left in the tribe were slaughtered in one day the unfortunates being forced to dig their own graves before their heads were struck off. So it was not simply a question of killing people in the heat of battle. All the women and children of the tribe were then enslaved.

Later on Muslims conducted organised raids into Africa to enslave Negroes. These were then sold in the slave bazaars of Mecca, Baghdad, Tripoli and other places in the Islamic world. This trade was only stopped by the European powers in the nineteenth century.

(ii) Muhammad as a Slave Owner

A stumbling block to those want to present Muhammad as a potential liberator of slaves is the he himself was a slave owner. We have already seen in Sura 33.50 that Allah says that he has given Muhammad slaves. Since the main route to servitude was capture in war Allah gives a fifth of the spoils of war to the Prophet to be used as he wishes:

8.41: And know that whatever thing you gain, a fifth of it is for Allah and for the Apostle and for the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, if you believe in Allah and in that which We revealed to Our servant, on the day of distinction, the day on which the two parties met; and Allah has power over all things

According to this Sura a fifth share of the booty was taken by Muhammad some of which was distributed to near kin, etc. as stipulated in the Sura. But this distribution was at Muhammad’s discretion. The booty included the captives who were made slaves. After the first successful campaign, the Battle of Badr, Muhammad released the captives who were not ransomed by the Meccans. This clemency had been opposed by some Muslim leaders like Umar who wanted them executed. However in later battles the general rule was that the men who refused to convert were executed while women and children where taken into slavery.(15)

    (iii) Position of Women Slaves

One of the worst aspects of Islamic slavery is the sexual exploitation of women slaves by their masters. Some Muslims try to deny this but as we have seen there are at least three Suras in the Koran which give the slave owner the power to cohabit with his female slaves at will. Even without the taint of slavery the plight of women was deplorable under Islam. If on top of this slavery is attached their plight is magnified manifold.

Amongst those who try to assert that concubinage with female slaves was not permitted in Islam is Maulana Muhammad Ali (The Religion of Islam, pp. 6667-670). His main argument is that Muhammad allows slave owners to marry female slaves (e.g. in Sura 24.32-33 which we have considered above)(16). But the fact that marriage is allowed does not mean that concubinage was not. In Islam a girl was given in marriage with the consent of her guardian (usually the father). But a slave has no guardian other than the slave-owner so the slave-owner marrying his own slave cannot be a free contract. A Muslim can have only four wives but he can keep an unlimited number of slave concubines; that is why marriage to one’s slave was rather rare. Finally even Maulana Muhammad Ali is forced to admit that in the Islamic jurisprudence (the Fiqh) “we find the rule laid down that a master may have sexual relations with his slave girl simply because of the right of ownership which she has in her” (p. 670).

The sexual exploitation of women slaves has also existed in other countries, e.g. in the United States with respect to Negro slavery. But never so extensively and commonly as under Islam, and never under the sanction of divine command. The harems and seraglios of the richer Islamic potentiates became massive and they were replenished regularly by slave women. This is amply documented in the cases of the Moghul and Ottoman rulers as well as the smaller Arab sheiks.

Muhammad himself accumulated a small harem of women for each of whom he built an apartment around the Mosque at Medina. Most were wives, the number greatly exceeding the number of four which was allowed for ordinary Muslims(17). The extra wives were generally authorised by a special dispensation from God granted through the archangel Gabriel.

One of Muhammad’s concubines, Mary the Copt, was a slave as she was a gift from the ruler of Abyssinia. Even though Mary refused to give up her Christian religion she became one of Muhammad’s favorites (giving him one of his rare children) and was involved in one of the scandals in Muhammad’s married life(18).

After the slaughter of the men of the Jewish tribe of Quraiza, and the enslavement of the women and children, Muhammad took Rihana, the wife of the chief of the Clan as a concubine. Of this incident Gairdner asks: “What of Rihana, the beautiful Jewess, taken to Muhammad’s tent on the very night of the slaughter, she with a face yet wet for a husband massacred in cold blood, he with a soul newly stained by the blood of that husband?”.(19) Rihana later tried to poison Muhammad.

    (d) Apologetics for Islamic Slavery

In this section we review some representative opinions on the subject expressed by scholars and commentators usually involving some kind of defence of the institution of slavery in Islam. As we have mentioned earlier many writers on Islam ignore this question entirely(20). This could be described as the defence of Islamic slavery by silence. But it probably indicates that we are dealing with an obvious fact which needs no further elaboration. However silence can be misconstrued as absence of slavery and sometimes the silence may be deceptively used.

However many writers do refer to this institution, often in passing, but sometimes acknowledging its infamy but also trying to provide some justification of it. No one can be found who expressly states that Islam does not permit slavery for this is too obvious in almost every aspect of the religion. We cannot be exhaustive in a survey like this. We shall first look at a few books on

Islam written by non-Muslims and then consider the defence of Islam on this question by Muslim writers.

Mohammed’s teachings are included in what is called “Hadith.” The “Hadith” is a record of Mohammed’s words and deeds according to his wives, relatives, and companions. Next to the Quran, it is the most important part of Islamic law; its teachings are just as binding.

The Hadith is recorded in many books, and by many people, not all of them are agreed upon by all Muslims. All of our quotes here are from “Sahih Al-Bukhari” which comes in nine volumes, and contains thousands of Hadiths. Al Bukhari is accepted by most Muslims as the authentic words of Mohammed. Because of the limited space, we will mention here just a few examples.

Our purpose is to give the reader a taste of the teachings of Mohammed, the prophet of Islam. Some of these teachings may shock you, and some may amuse you. Others may simply leave you mystified.

    WOMEN

Egypt warns giving women some rights could destroy society

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -Egypt‘s ruling Muslim Brotherhood warns that a U.N. declaration on women’s rights could destroy society by allowing a woman to travel, work and use contraception without her husband’s approval and letting her control family spending.

The Islamist party of President Mohamed Mursi outlined 10 reasons why Muslim countries should “reject and condemn“ the declaration; The Brotherhood, which helped to elect Morsi to power in June, posted the statement on its website, http://www.ikhwanweb.com/

The Muslim Brotherhoodsaid the declaration would give “wives full rights to file legal complaints against husbands accusing them of rape or sexual harassment, obliging competent authorities to deal husbands punishments similar to those prescribed for raping or sexually harassing a stranger, give girls sexual freedom, legalize abortion, provide teenagers with contraceptives, give equality to women in marriage and require men and women to share duties such as child care and chores , equal rightsto homosexuals, and provide protection and respect for prostitutes” and “equal rights to adulterous wives and illegitimate sons resulting from adulterous relationships.”

The Muslim Brotherhood should be worried. Equal rights for women would not destroy society but Islam.

    Pakistan .273

    Saudi Arabia: .239

    Palestine .228

    Iran: .226

    Afghanistan .196

That data correlates quite well with the equality of women in those countries.

The United States and all democratic societies have achieved their prosperity by granting women equal rights. It was the Second World War that lead to the economic transformation of women. While men from the USA, Canada and Britain marched to war by the millions, women left their homes and marched by the millions into the factories to become machinists, welders, electricians, carpenters, millwrights, plumbers, truck drivers etc. They labored on machines, toiled with wrenches and hammers, saws and screw drivers to manufacture planes and tanks, ships and guns. Without women the victory of democracy over Nazism and the Japanese Empire would have been impossible.

Today women occupy high positions in all professions.

Today it is illegal for a husband to have sex with his wife against her will. Spousal rape is rape. “No means No” is a legal right for women.

    Today wife-beating is a crime.

The new draft of Egypt’s post-revolution of the constitution article 36 concerning women’s right and freedoms contains an additive which discloses that “men and women are equal, so long as this equality does not violateIslamic laws.”

Lawyer Sobhi Saleh, Muslim Brotherhood figure and member of the Constituent Assembly in charge of drafting Egypt’s post-revolution constitution stated “Whoever objects to this bit will be objecting to the Islamic faithand wreaking havoc unnecessarily. Those who protest have to know that there is no absolute equality between men and women inIslam and inheritance is an example”.

In Islam, a married woman is the property of her husband. He is permitted to use violence to control his wife. Wife beating is divinely sanctioned by Allah in the Koran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.

Quran 4:34 Men (Muslims) are in charge of women (Muslimah), therefore Allah has made the Muslim (men) to excel the Muslim (women), and because Muslim (men) spend of their property, so good women (Muslimah) are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah has guarded. As for those women (Muslimah/wives) from whom you fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and beat them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them…

Other translations render the phrase “beat them” as:

Ahamed: “beat them (lightly at the very last)”

    al-Bayt Institute: “and strike them”

    Arberry: “and beat them”

    Asad: “then beat them”

    Daryabadi: “and beat them“

    Dawood: “and beat them”

    Haleem: “then hit them”

Hilali/Khan: “(and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful)”

    Irving: “and (even) beat them”

    Kanz ul-Eeman: “beat them (lightly)”

Khalifa: “then you may (as a last alternative) beat them”

Malik: (and then if necessary) beat them”

    Noorudin/Omar: “punish them (mildly)”

    Pickthall: “and scourge them”

    Rodwell: “and scourge them”

Saheeh int’l: “(and finally) strike them”

    Sale: “and chastise them”

    Shakir: “and beat them”

    Sher Ali: “and chastise them”

    Stephens/Darwish: “and smack them(without harshness)”

Yusuf Ali: “(And last) beat them (lightly)”

Note: words in parentheses () are the translators’ interpolation into the text. Those words do not exist in the Arabic text of the Koran.

Four reasons that sanction men beating their wives:

    · if she refuses to beautify herself for him.

    · if she refuses sex when he asks for it.

    · if she refuses to pray or perform ritual ablutions.

    · if she goes out of the house without a valid reason.

Also, Muhammad’s example is normative for Muslims, since he is an “excellent example of conduct” (Quran 33:21) – and Aisha reports that Muhammad struck her. Once he went out at night after he thought she was asleep, and she followed him surreptitiously. Muhammad saw her, and, as Aisha recounts: “He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?” (Sahih Muslim 2127)

Aisha herself said it: “I have not seen any woman suffering as much [from beatings] as the believing women.” (Sahih Bukhari 7.72.715)

Sharia Law mandates the oppression and subjugation of women:

Wife beating “[A husband] may hit her, but not in a way that injures her, meaning he may not break bones, wound her, or cause blood to flow.” (Reliance of the Traveler, Section m10.12)

Honor killing – “The following are not subject to retaliation: a father or mother for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring. (ibid Section o1.2(4))

Women over the age of puberty are not permitted to leave the house without covering the body (except face and hands). Fatwa 667, Part No. 17, Page 142-150
Women are not permitted to travel without a spouse or male relative. Fatwa 12139, Part No. 11, Page 38

Women are not permitted to be alone with men who are not relatives or spouses, and the punishment for such “indecency” is whipping or stoning. Fatwa 9693, Part No. 12, Page 381 & 382

Women are not permitted to speak softly to a man or otherwise provoke his desire with letters, phone calls or glances, the punishment of which is whipping or stoning. Fatwa 9693, Part No. 12, Page 381 & 382
Nearly half Saudi and Egyptian women are beaten up by their husbands or other family members.

To give Muslim women equal rights would be to deny the validity that Quran 4:34 and thus imply that Q.4:34 and other teachings are not from Allah but were fabricated by Muhammad. The imprisonment of Muslim women – their subjugation and oppression and denial of their humanity and equality – is based on the evil lie of the “divinity” of the Quran.

We must fight for the right of all Muslim women to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. To prevent the enslavement of women, Sharia Law must be exposed and stopped. All anti-woman teachings of the Quran and Hadith must be condemned and rejected. The rights of women must be enforced and protected through the Rule of Law and a Constitutional Amendment: Universal Declaration of the Total Equality of Womenhttp://www.islamreform.net/new-page-64.htm

This Constitutional Amendment, to be submitted to all states of USA for immediate enactment must also be ratified by all 57 Muslim countries. In this Proclamation, each anti-woman teaching of the Quran and Sharia Law are condemned and made illegal. By doing so, and making these rights – denied by Islam – “Constitutional”, we are reinforcing our rejection of Sharia Law and the Quran, making it impossible for Muslims to undermine the democratic rights of women in the United States and worldwide. This Amendment and the rights of women must be taught to student in every school in America and all other countries.

The battle of establishing the rights of women universally will also act as a key for defeating Islam. All Islamic nations must enact the Constitutional Amendment granting their women total humanity and equality. Those nations that refuse to sign and implement the Amendments will be thrown out of the international community. This means denying visas to the UN delegations of ALL 57 Islamic nations leaving their seats empty until they not only adopt this Constitutional Amendment but enforce it. Those of us, involved in the battle against Islam, must champion the worldwide movement for total and complete equality of ALL women with men. We are not in conflict with Muslims, but with Islamic teachings that Muslim men use to subjugate and denigrate women of their own faith and beyond. We must fight for their equal human rights and dignity. Only in this way will Islam be defeated and condemned to the trash bin of history along with Nazism and Communism.

    CONCEPTION OF GOD

For most of mankind – there is God – the Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Glorious Exalted Creator of the Universe, a God of All Peace, Love, Goodness and Mercy – an All Wise, All Loving God for all mankind.

    ALLAH (THE ANTI – GOD)

For Muslims – there is Allah – the ANTI – GOD.

Allah is the ANTI – GOD worshiped by 1.2 billion Muslims. Allah is the ANTI – GOD of war, murder, killing, death and destruction, violence, rape, slavery, torture, hate, terror, brutality, savagery, maiming, stoning, cutting off limbs, mutilations, looting and pillaging, extortion, sexual depravity, child molestation, intolerance, bigotry, sharia law, oppression and submission of women, inferiority of woman, women as instruments of sexual pleasure in paradise, wife beating, honor killings, inequality of infidels, that infidels can be murdered and their property stolen as a holy duty, that Muslims who renounce Islam can be killed, that Muslims (or anyone) who challenge the teachings of Islam can be murdered, that believers who slay and are slain in the service of Allah will ascend to a sexual Paradise of big eyed, big breasted virgins who they can sexually molest for all eternity.

What non-Muslim scholars said about Prophet
    Muhammed (peace be upon him)
Nepolean Bonaparte – Quoted in Christian Cherfils
    BONAPARTE ET ISLAM (PARIS 1914)
“I hope the time is not far off when I shall be able to
unite all the wise and educated men of all the
countries and establish a uniform regime based on the
principles of Qur’an which alone are true and which
alone can lead men to happiness.”
    M.K.Gandhi, YOUNG INDIA, 1924
    “…I became more than
    ever convinced that it
    was not the sword that
    won
    a place for Islam
    in those days in the
    scheme of life. It was
    the rigid simplicity, the
    utter self-effacement of
    the
    prophet, the
    scrupulous regard for
    his pledges, his intense
devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity,
his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and his own
mission. These, and not the sword carried everything
before them and surmounted every trouble.” YOUNG
    INDIA, 1924
Lamartine – Histoire de la Turquie, Paris 1854, Vol
    II, pp. 276-77:
    “If greatness of
    purpose, smallness of
    means, and astounding
    results are the three
    criteria of human
    genius, who could dare
    to compare any great
    man in modern history
    with Muhammad? The
    most famous men
    created arms, laws and
empires only. They founded, if anything at all, no more
    than
material powers which often crumbled away
before their eyes. This man moved not only armies,
legislations, empires, peoples and dynasties, but
millions of men in one-third of the then inhabited
world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the
gods, the religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls…
the forbearance in victory, his ambition, which was
entirely devoted to one idea and in no manner striving
    for
an empire; his endless prayers, his mystic
conversations with God, his death and his triumph
after death; all these attest not to an imposture but to
a firm conviction which gave him the power to restore
    a
dogma. This dogma was twofold, the unit of God
and the immateriality of God; the former telling what
God is, the latter telling what God is not; the one
overthrowing false gods with the sword, the other
    starting an idea with words.
    “Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior,
conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a
cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial
empires and of one spiritual empire, that is
Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human
greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is
there any man greater than he?”
Edward Gibbon and Simon Ocklay – History of the
    Saracen Empire, London, 1870, p. 54:
    “It is not the
    propagation but the
    permanency of his
    religion that deserves
    our wonder, the same
    pure and perfect
    impression which he
    engraved at Mecca and
    Medina is preserved,
    after the revolutions of
    twelve centuries by the
Indian, the African and the Turkish proselytes of the
Koran…The Mahometans have uniformly withstood the
temptation of reducing the object of their faith and
devotion to a level with the senses and imagination of
    man. ‘I
believe in One God and Mahomet the Apostle
of God’, is the simple and invariable profession of
Islam. The intellectual image of the Deity has never
been degraded by any visible idol; the honors of the
prophet have never transgressed the measure of
human virtue, and his living precepts have restrained
the gratitude of his disciples within the bounds of
    reason and religion.”
    Rev. Bosworth Smith, Mohammed and
    Mohammadanism, London 1874, p. 92:
    “He was Caesar and
    Pope in one; but he
    was Pope without
    Pope’s pretensions,
    Caesar without the
    legions of Caesar:
    without a standing
    army, without a
    bodyguard, without a
    palace, without a fixed
    revenue; if ever any
man had the right to say that he ruled by the right
divine, it was Mohammed, for he had all the power
without its instruments and without its supports.”
Annie Besant, The Life and Teachings of
    Muhammad, Madras 1932, p. 4:
    “It is impossible for
    anyone who studies
    the life and character
    of the great Prophet of
    Arabia, who knows
    how he taught and
    how he lived, to feel
    anything but reverence
    for that mighty
    Prophet, one of the
    great messengers of
the Supreme. And although in what I put to you I
shall say many things which may be familiar to many,
yet I myself feel whenever I re-read them, a new
way of admiration, a new sense of reverence for that
    mighty Arabian teacher.”
Montgomery Watt, Mohammad at Mecca, Oxford
    1953, p. 52:
    “His readiness to
    undergo persecutions
    for his beliefs, the high
    moral character of the
    men who believed in
    him and looked up to
    him as leader, and the
    greatness of his
    ultimate achievement –
    all argue his
    fundamental integrity.
To suppose Muhammad an impostor raises more
problems than it solves. Moreover, none of the great
figures of history is so poorly appreciated in the West
    as Muhammad.”
James A. Michener, ‘Islam: The Misunderstood
Religion’ in Reader’s Digest (American Edition), May
    1955, pp. 68-70:
    “Muhammad, the
    inspired man who
    founded Islam, was
    born about A.D. 570
    into an Arabian tribe
    that worshipped idols.
    Orphaned at birth, he
    was always particularly
    solicitous
    of the poor
    and needy, the widow
    and the orphan, the
slave and the downtrodden. At twenty he was
already a successful businessman, and soon became
director of camel caravans for a wealthy widow.
When he reached twenty-five, his employer,
recognizing his merit, proposed marriage. Even though
she was fifteen years older, he married her, and as
long as she lived, remained a devoted husband.
“Like almost every major prophet before him,
Muhammad fought shy of serving as the transmitter
of God’s word, sensing his own inadequacy. But the
angel commanded ‘Read’. So far as we know,
Muhammad was unable to read or write, but he
began to dictate those inspired words which would
soon revolutionize a large segment of the earth:
    “There is one God.”
“In all things Muhammad was profoundly practical.
When his beloved son Ibrahim died, an eclipse
occurred, and rumors of God’s personal condolence
quickly arose. Whereupon Muhammad is said to have
announced, ‘An eclipse is a phenomenon of nature. It
is foolish to attribute such things to the death or birth
    of a human-being.’
“At Muhammad’s own death an attempt was made to
deify him, but the man who was to become his
administrative successor killed the hysteria with one
of the noblest speeches in religious history: ‘If there
are any among you who worshipped Muhammad, he
is dead. But if it is God you worshipped, He lives
    forever.'”
Michael H. Hart, The 100: A Ranking of the Most
Influential Persons in History, New York: Hart
    Publishing Company, Inc. 1978, p. 33:
    “My choice of Muhammad to
lead the list of the world’s
    most influential persons may
    surprise some readers and
    may be questioned by others,
but he was the only man in
    history who was supremely
    successful on both the
    religious and secular level.”
Sarojini Naidu, the famous Indian poetess says –
    S. Naidu, Ideals of Islam, Speeches and Writings,
    Madaras, 1918
    “It was the first religion
    that
    preached and
    practiced democracy;
    for, in the mosque,
    when the call for
    prayer is sounded and
    worshippers are
    gathered together, the
    democracy of Islam is
    embodied five times a
    day when the peasant
and king kneel side by side and proclaim: ‘God Alone
    is Great’… “
Thomas Caryle – Heros and Heros Worship
    “how one man single-
    handedly, could weld
    warring tribes and
    Bedouins into a most
    powerful and civilized
    nation in less than two
    decades?”
    “…The
    lies (Western
    slander) which well-
    meaning zeal has
    heaped round this man
(Muhammed) are disgraceful to ourselves only…How
one man single-handedly, could weld warring tribes
and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and
civilized nation in less than two decades….A silent
great soul, one of that who cannot but be earnest. He
was to kindle the world; the world’s Maker had
    ordered so.”
Stanley Lane-Poole – Table Talk of the Prophet
    “He was the most
    faithful protector of
    those he protected, the
    sweetest and most
    agreeable in
    conversation. Those
    who saw him were
    suddenly filled with
    reverence; those who
    came near him loved
    him; they who
described him would say, “I have never seen his like
either before or after.” He was of great taciturnity, but
when he spoke it was with emphasis and
deliberation, and no one could forget what he said…”
George Bernard Shaw – The Genuine Islam
    Vol.No.8, 1936.
“I believe if a man like
    him were to assume the
    dictatorship of the
    modern world he would
    succeed in solving its
    problems in a way that
    would bring much
    needed peace and
    happiness.
    I have
    studied him – the
    man and in my opinion
    is far from being an
anti–Christ. He must be called the Savior of Humanity.
    I have
prophesied about the faith of Mohammad that
it would be acceptable the Europe of tomorrow as it is
beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today.”

    Dear GIG,

I am still waithing for the answers of my questions – What different amenities will provided to the males and females specifically?

My another question is regarding your views about girl who is in her mid twenties and is looking for a groom. Should she try to find a person closest to Muhammad’s profile in his fifties, already having a few wives, with a white flowing beard, praying five times a day and very religious in Islamic sense and with an agreement that he will consider her as his field and so forth…..? I request your answer to the question in light of Islamic views.

    Hello GIG,

it is upto you to adopt any religion. Can you tell, following Muhammad,s teachings, will you marry your 6 years old daugther to a 59 years old man? and send her to a maulvi for learning teachings of Koran, no matter she is sexually abused?

    Dear Admin,
Thanks for opening a blog to discuss Hinduism vs Islam. I would like to clarify that I am not a female but a male HINDU ATHEIST looking for answers about faith and/or truth. My rational for engaging GIG was her following claims.
    – Working woman hence should have rational thought
    – Converted from Hinduism to Islam hence should have an idea about both the religions and may be able to clarify doubts

As far as religion is concerned, my thoughts are as below.
    – If there is a GOD, then he/she should have equal love towards all his creations. I don’t understand why he/she would love some and hate some other. I can’t imagine a mother hating one of her children.
    – If a person claims he is messenger of God, I really laugh about. This is true for both Hindus & Muslims. If tomorrow I claim the same saying that I am messenger of God and my word is final in all matters, I don’t think your reaction would be any different.
    – I don’t believe in the judgement day. When we die, we all know that our bodies decompose and we are no longer present except in memories of our beloved ones. I hope every one accepts this reality as this is proven scientifically. If so, how could one will get resurrected after death?
    – The definition of Heaven and Hell after death look most silly. I believe, the heaven or hell can be created in this life itself based on our deeds. If there is a heaven and hell, where are they located? Are they in milky way or beyond milky way? Earth has around 7 billion human beings currently and our population is expanding rapidly. If we count the number of people who were born on Earth ( from the first man onwards ), it could run into several more billions. How many people can a heaven or hell accommodate?
    – I don’t believe that we are all same. If we are all same, why one is short and another is long ( or fair vs dark or healthy vs unhealthy )? Every one should respect others for their differences and still love each other. If a religion preaches hatred towards other people, then that religion is an outdated idea in today’s world.

      Tenali,
You are a Dharmic (not Hindu) and that is why you are thinking this way. All Abrahamic are suppose to think that they are exclusivist (only they will be saved on the Judgement Day), Supremacist (we are God’s chosen people) and monotheist (Hinduism is also monotheist, but Abrahamic thinks only their version of God is correct and the rest are wrong -like Protestants are wrong but only Catholics are right…).

You have to read the Koran and Bible to be clear what we mean. This supremacist exclusivist teachings have resulted in millions being killed in the name of God.

In this respect, Interfaith Marriage with EQUALITY is not possible when dealing with an Abrahamic, unless the person do not believing following literally by his/her book.

Dear Admin – Appreciate your response. I was never interested in religious affairs but was interested in reading Indian history. Of late, the terrorist attacks in various countries and unrest in islamic world made me to study the approaches in Hinduism and Islam. My understanding is mainly from various sites in internet and youtube. I have to admit that some of them are extreme. If some muslim intellectuals can answer the following questions, it would be of great help. I am sure this will also help people getting into interfaith marriages. I know the answers to these questions from Hinduism perspective.
        – Why did he create certain people to be believers and certain others as non-believers? He could have created all the people as believers.
        – What is the rational for hating certain animals and non-believers? If these are so undesirable, he could not have created them.
        – What is the rational behind picking up one person as his messenger and one language to convey his message? Why not more messengers in more languages? Why more messengers could not come in last several centuries?
        – What is the rational behind the differential behaviours and punishments for different people ( men vs women, believers vs non-believers etc ) documented in the book?
        – Why muslims can’t marry outside Islam? If Men can marry, why not women?

    Dear admin,
Now its no suprise why muslim intellectuals shy from here, as even I see now how the fights here are pity and the comments remind me of my childhood when we children fought with one another. I guess you and all can have a sigh of relief as I will be packing my sincere efforts and moving on from here. And continue your lopsided discussions to your heart contents.
Bash the hell out of Islam, because know what? it doesn’t damage Islam a bit(that you would love so badly). I tried my best but now I refuse to take a stand with people who are blinded by their own rejection and superiority complexes.

Allah knows I have tried my best and when He asks me on Judgement Day that did you deliver the message I can proudly say Yes and He knows I have done more than delivering the message not just for the sake but sincerely wishing good for all unknown people even when they didn’t spare my daughters, yes my heart was clean, hope even you all’s heart be clean. If my being here was not tolerant then I don’t know what is.

If you see for yourself you will know how much rubbish people have posted, what action did you take against such posts because believe it or not there are many people including women like me who do love Islam for what it teaches unlike what is evident of this particular site. Its off putting but still I tried and swear to Allah it were for you peoples benefit, otherwise what profit or gain or loss was I getting on this mere forum??
Religion is a deep topic far from cliches like meditation or yoga or there wouldn’t be Hindu terrorists like Sadhvi Pragya Singh or intolerant demolitions of a Masjid or cruel riots like that in Gujrat & the list goes on in Mera Bharat Mahan. Its not a matter of pride its a matter of authority that is above all of us humans that I wanted all to question. ITS THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE THAT’S DAMAGED NOT THEIR RELIGIONS
Would like to sign off with quotes from Quran which clearly preach equality (which is last on the list of this site)

49:13 O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

2:213 And mankind is naught but a single nation.”

10:42-43 And among them are some who listen to you; so will you make the deaf hear even if they do not have any sense? And among them is one who gazes at you; so will you guide the blind even if they cannot perceive?

25:44 Or do you think that most of them hear or understand something? They are not but like the cattle – in fact more astray from the path than them!

Hope Allah guides all! ALLAH HAFIZ

GIG – I couldn’t resist commenting on Masjid demolition or riots in Gujarat. I am not supporting both these activities. But if you are really interested in knowing the truth, I would recommend reading Mughal history since most Muslims claim this is the high point in the Indian history. One will find the demolition of temples or killing of Hindus for refusing to convert as a duty of these emperors. It would be an eye opener for any neutral person.

Relating to rubbish languages, yes it is a due time to make a change. We did not mean to ignore yours and others suggestions but it was a matter of time. Now new efforts have been implemented. Sorry for the delay.

      GIG,
You joined this site about May 2, 2013, some 25 days before, and expecting a large percent to people get converted to Islam? You have to learn in life that patience is every thing. You have put seeds in the minds of un-believers and it takes time to germinate. If not all, but may be a small silent group may be considering a change. Now if you don’t nurture the newly germinated seeds, it will die down.

You have left many unanswered questions in many minds, and now people will remain confused for a while (like helping needly SD is a very small thing and not worth your time because you have a big plan to join Allah some day!, Satyen has many questions,…).

Now you will move to a pure Islamic site and feel comfort with all like-minded people, is it your strength or weakness? We feel you will be like frogs in a deep well all singing the same tune and enjoying wonderful creation (that well) of Allah, but one has to come out of that well to see what else Allah created.

We were intellectually challenging each other here, why you felt this site is a hostile environment? Is that what you learned from Muhammad’s life? He spend whole his life in a very hostile environment without fearing of failure. What would have happened if Muhammad gave up in his early life and decided to settle with a few of his like-minded people and felt happy in the comfort zone? We believe Allah will be VERY upset with you if you give up here prematurely.

We welcomed you and encouraged you all times because we truly loved your contributions. It will be a sad day for our Interfaith family here if we lose you. We are losers, you are a loser, it is a big loss for both of us. GIG, you know we are always here, waiting!

      • Satyen
        May 27, 2013 10:49 am

Vivekananda meant tolerance to both, various religions as well as Gods described in various religions as long as they are not against the humanity. I too mean the same. However, I consider all religions different with some similarities and differences as well and convey different messages. All the religions cannot be clubbed together and considered to be preaching the same thing. It has caused immense damage to the humanity as some of the brutal and inhuman practices have found their way to be recognized as religious practices. In fact tolerance has been stretched to such as extent that it is considered to be indecent to crticize even the irrational religious practices without any meaning and against the humanity/environment. It’s more with the so called intellectual class in the media and running the blogs as well.

So, now it’s time to bring rationality to the fore and start saying spade a spade. In fact greater danger is irrational practices are presented as if those are very rational using wrong facts in order to attract/trap the semi literate innocent people. Therefore the responsibility on the people with good education and with a humane heart has increased manifold.

I think people will understand their responsibility and dharma and won’t consider all religions same. All the religions should be considered on its merit and so the practices. Beliefs/faiths against the rationality and reason must be discarded for the good of humanity.

        So, now it

    Koenraad Elst has noted:

Eastern philosophy has appeal in the West these days because ‘‘of their aura of rationality and the absence of a conflict between science and religion as there is in Islam or Christianity.’’

It’s not only the Koenraad Elst, the famnous modern day historian who says so but he only synchronises with the gneral perception among the intellectuals in the west these days. In fact the tryst with hinduism is not a new phenomenon in the west. Hinduism has attracted even the best of minds from time immemorial including the philosophy, science and management gurus of the western hemisphere!

As hinsuism is vast and full of knowledge, I can only give you the reference. One of the sites that is a collection of interesting facts about Hinduism and will keep you bound for hours is

    http://www.hinduwisdom.info

In fact it was started by a young Indian woman named Sushma Londhe, an immigrant to the USA, as a personal collection regarding Hinduism. Over the years, it has grown like a banyan tree and is a good source of information regarding hinduism.

I recommend everybody interested in exploring Hinduism in its entirety, to veisit this site, full of ancient picturtes of sculptures and temples and various quotes by eminent personalities.

    Dear GIG,

Do you know, how islam was expanded, it was expanded by hook and crook, through resoting all sorts of crimes, cruelties, murder, rape, torture, fraud and deceitful activities. You feel proud of this religion, it means your days are numbered. May be feeling insecure about future too and subject to beating at times, while slight disobey may lead to your skin peeled off.

Here is the bloody expansion of islam through out the world.

Muslims would have us believe that Islam was spread peacefully by Muslims traveling from country to country, city to city, door to door preaching the teachings of Peace and Love and Goodness from Allah and His Messenger.

    This is not what happened.

Obeying the teachings of Islam – Muslims fell upon the infidel civilizations and peoples with unimaginable savagery and rivers of blood flowed across the pages of human history.

Islam is coated in blood of the innocents. In the past 1400 years, Islam has murdered 270,000,000 non believers.

    80 million Hindus killed.

    60 million Christians were slaughtered

    10 million Buddhists died.

    120 million Africans butchered

As stated countless times already – ALL Muslims MUST believe the Koran is the divine word of God – the Laws of God. All Muslims MUST believe that God authored the Koran and a copy of the Koran is in heaven. The Koran remains for all Muslims, not just “fundamentalists,” the uncreated word of God Himself. It is valid for all times and places forever; its ideas are absolutely true and beyond all criticism. To question it is to question the very word of God, and hence blasphemous. A Muslim’s duty is to believe it and obey its divine commands without question.

Muslim can be murdered (beheaded) for doing any of the following:

Reviling Allah or his Messenger; (2) being sarcastic about ‘Allah’s name, His command, His interdiction, His promise, or His threat’; (3) denying any verse of the Quran or ‘anything which by scholarly consensus belongs to it, or to add a verse that does not belong to it’; (4) holding that ‘any of Allah’s messengers or prophets are liars, or to deny their being sent’; (5) reviling the religion of Islam; (6) being sarcastic about any ruling of the Sacred Law; (7) denying that Allah intended ‘the Prophet’s message . . . to be the religion followed by the entire world.’

To any rational, normal person reading the teachings of the Koran (and these are just a small sample of the 1000’s and 1000’s of the teachings of hate, terror, cruelty, depravity etc that is Islam) the claim by Muslims that they are reading the words, teachings, laws of God – that the Koran is authored by God and a copy of the Koran rests in Heaven is insanity.

There is no Islamic fundamentalism, Islamo – fascism, political Islam, Islamic terrorists, Islamic militants, jihadists, Wahhabism, radical Islam etc who have hijacked the religion. There has been no hijacking. These demented souls are following EXACTLY the teachings of the Koran – they are following in the footsteps of their founder – the man of evil – Muhammad. In the end – IT’S ALL ABOUT ISLAM STUPID INFIDEL.

ISLAM IS AN EVIL TOTALITARIAN IDEOLOGY NOT A RELIGION

Islam is a declaration of war against infidels. Islam is an ideology of WAR. The Koran is a BOOK OF WAR. Allah is a GOD OF WAR. This war is permanent until all the infidels have converted, or paid a submission tax or have been murdered. These are the ETERNAL LAWS OF ALLAH AS SET DOWN IN THE KORAN

Infidels can be murdered by Muslims as an ETERNAL LAW OF ALLAH. Not only can they all be murdered but the wives and daughters of the murdered infidels can be taken as booty, raped, and then sold as slaves. Their sons can be sold into slavery. If there is any doubt as to the boy’s age of puberty – Muslims can pull down their pants and inspect their genital area for hairs. Even the slightest sign of hair growth means that these young men can be taken and beheaded. As an ETERNAL LAW OF ALLAH, Muslims can then loot and pillage the property of the murdered infidels, and must share the booty obtained from the sale of boys and women and the proceeds of looting with ALLAH. Muslims can own slaves as an ETERNAL LAW OF ALLAH. Slavery has been a central part of Islam since it’s creation by Muhammad. ALL THIS EVIL ARE THE ETERNAL LAWS OF ALLAH AS SET DOWN IN THE KORAN. THESE LAWS OF ALLAH ARE FOREVER. Not only that but righteous Muslims who slay and are slain murdering infidels can ascend as martyrs to the evil, sexually degenerate, depraved Islamic Paradise of eternal erections and virgins who re – generate as virgins after each sex act. THIS IS THEIR ETERNAL REWARD FOR OBEYING THESE EVIL LAWS OF ALLAH.

Again, the above ETERNAL LAWS OF ALLAH allow murder, slavery, looting and pillaging and if you are killed in the process of obeying these Laws then you can ascend to a paradise of full breasted, lustrous eyed virgins to sexually molest for all eternity. ALLAH permits the raping of female slaves. As already shown in Islam – rape is not just a sexual weapon – it is a weapon of war. Having murdered the woman’s man, Muslims can now – sanctioned by ETERNAL LAWS OF ALLAH complete their final humiliation and domination of her body.

Unlimited sex and money were powerful motivations for Muslims to grab their swords, climb on their horses and ride off into the sunset to bring war, death and destruction to the infidels.

India paid an horrific price. The world famous historian, Will Durant has written in his Story of Civilization that “the Mohammedan conquest of India was probably the bloodiest story in history”.

    Buddhism was devastated.

    Persia’s civilization disappeared from history.

The holocaust of slavery was imposed on large parts of black Africa. Slavery has been an integral part of Islam since its creation by Muhammad. Islam institutionalized slavery and made its existence legal and an ETERNAL LAW of ALLAH (read articles relating to slavery further in this Website). Islam was a major player in the black African slave trade – an historical fact not well known today. Also not taught is the fact that 1.5 million Europeans were taken as slaves by Muslims.

The fact that throughout Islam’s history, this slaughter of the innocents in the worst ways imaginable, murdered in the name of and to the greater glory of God is an obscenity. The so called men of ALLAH responsible for this carnage who have – through the millenniums – for Power, Domination, and Control of society unleashed this evil deserve to be in Hell.

To take man’s natural Concept of God, a conception of Peace and Love and Goodness – an all Wise, all merciful, all Loving God for all mankind, and turn God – by bastardizing his teachings into a murderous ALLAH (the ANTI GOD) of hate, terror, intolerance, death and destruction is one of the greatest sins that can be committed against God. Islam will remain forever a black historical stain smearing all human history.

Religious harmony is the key to world peace! Since we are the children of same god! We should love everyone in the world Irrespective of one’s religion , caste and colour! Religious harmony is must for the progress of the world! Lets work towards bringing religious harmony! Religious harmony is the key to world peace!

Religion plays a very crucial and central role in everyone’s life. Religion guides us to the path of honesty, integrity, high morals and inspires us to live a righteous life. Many people around the world are driven by their religion to keep themselves away from bad deeds and do good things.

Today many religions like Buddhism , Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Sikhism, zoroastrianism and many other religions, faiths and believes are being followed by millions of people around the world. At various point in time, many prophets, saints and religious leaders like Gautam Budhha , Jesus Christ, Shri Ram , Shri Krishna, Hazrat Mohhamad, Mahavir Swami, Abraham, Moses, Guru Nanak Dev, Zarathruth and many others have come on this world to teach us the true meaning of religion and guided us to live a noble life. Various holy books like Pitakas, Bible, Gita, Ramayana, Vedas, Upnisads, Quran, Kalpa Sutra, torah, GuruGranth Sahib, Avesta and many other religious texts inspire us to keep away from evil and live a path of good deeds.

But a closer look at the history of the world teaches us that the religion has been misused by many people for their own vested interest. These people divide the society in name of religion, caste and creed for their own vested interest. Religious intolerance in the society has created many problems– millions of people have been killed in riots; many people are discriminated every day because of their religion; many nations have been divided on the religious lines and created discord in the world.

Religious harmony holds the key to a peaceful and progressive world. Religious harmony is the need of the hour because we are the children of the same God. The holy books of various religions are filled with divine knowledge; if we are religiously tolerant and study these holy books and practise in our daily life then our world can be a lot better. Our world is a diverse one where people of different religion are spread across many nations – a religious group many be in majority in some areas and minority in other area. Religious harmony is important to ensure the safety of people in the diverse society.

Lets work together to create religious harmony in our world by knowing and practising our own religion ; respecting other religions ; integrating closely with the people of different faith and believes , not interfering in the religious matter of other people and opposing any attempt to misuse the religion and create disharmony in our society.

Religious Harmony holds center stage for the peace and prosperity in our multi-religious and multi-cultural world. Let’s pledge to love and respect everyone in the world irrespective of one’s religion, cast, creed, sect, colour, ethnicity, language, gender, nationality and any other difference. Let’s pledge to work towards bringing Religious Harmony and co-creating a peaceful and prosperous world.

    Hello readers,

The way punishment has been described in Quran against adultery, crimes etc., why Maulvies, Imams who rape innocent girls and boys in Madarsas, are not punished. Rather they when caught, build pressure to issue fatwa, frame apostasy, blashphemy cases against those who oppose their evil deeds.

Why Zahid, who is just pointing out towards URL/sites, cannot write even a single line, claiming to be real muslim, did not complain against maulvies, when he himself was sodomized repeatedly. His mother suffered mental torutures by 9 mutta marriages, did not raise voice against such practices?

All this indicates that Zahid himself is a criminal, antisocial elements, having nexus with terrorists in Kashmir and engaged in sexual business with his mother. This family has no shame, every body knowns what is their character, just like prostitute openly.

    Hi readers,

If you consider the entire humanity and all living and non living things, the wsay Quran has been written, there is no doubt left that ALLAH IS A BARBARIC BARBARIAN , in view of his following so called teachings:-

Adultery and fornication must be punished by flogging with a hundred stripes

24:2 The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by God, if ye believe in God and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.

This verse leaves no other option for Muslims who believe in the divine origin of the Quran. It specifically says they must not have mercy on people who have committed adultery or fornication, and that this brutal punishment of 100 lashes is “prescribed by God.” However, since other verses in the Quran specifically allow men to have sex slaves, the horrible crime of serial rape against a non-Muslim woman is not considered adultery or fornication and would not be punished if the woman is considered a concubine.

No God would ever teach 24.2. To beat someone 100 lashes is barbaric. Allah is a barbarian.

No God would ever state “flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by God, if ye believe in God and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.”

No God would ever state – ” Let not compassion move you in their case”. Stating these words as God’s words is evil and repugnant. God is pure mercy and compassion. God is all mercy and all compassion. He would never allow anyone to beat any other human being – not with a whip, not with a stick, not even with a toothbrush.

No God would ever state – ” in a matter prescribed by God, if ye believe in God and the Last Day” to force someone to put aside his natural human feelings of compassion – do it because I God have prescribed it – no matter what your own personal feelings of mercy may be – do it if you believe in Me and the Last day. This is truly evil – commit a brutal evil act to prove you believe in Me. God would never order anyone to commit evil – to go against what he knows in his heart to be morally wrong.

You tell me what kind of person could flog a woman 100 times and not be an immoral brute. For God to force someone to commit this evil is truly evil incarnate.

You tell me what kind of barbaric, barbarian God would be to order the whipping of a human being.

No normal, rational human being can believe that God would ever utter Koran 24:20

Koran 24.20 is not the word or the teaching of God. They are the word and teaching of ALLAH (the ANTI -GOD). Allah is the ANTI GOD of pure hate – a brutal barbarian without mercy, without compassion. But of course this teaching is not from any Allah – since Allah never existed. The brutal, barbaric, barbarian – the evil mind that produced this teaching is Muhammad.

WHY KORAN 24:20 IS NOT THE WORD/TEACHING OF GOD AND THEREFORE THE ENTIRE KORAN IS NOT THE WORDS/TEACHINGS OF GOD

For most of mankind – there is God – the Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Glorious Exalted Creator of the Universe, a God of All Peace, Love, Goodness and Mercy – an All Wise, All Loving God for all mankind. God as the creator of the universe – the creator of all living things – is PERFECT.As a PERFECT God – God is all pure peace and love and goodness.

GOD is the very essence of pure love. THE VERY EXISTENCE OF GOD IS PURE LOVE. IF GOD IS NOT THE EMBODIMENT OF PURE LOVE THEN GOD DOES NOT EXIST.

GOD has never spoken a word of hate. As the essence of pure love, as a being whose very existence is pure love God is totally incapable of hate. If God had just one hateful thought then He would no longer exist.

GOD has never spoken one violent word. If GOD spoke just one word of violence – GOD would no longer be PERFECT and therefore no longer GOD. GOD is not a violent being. GOD is the very essence of non-violence. If God committed just one act of violence or ordered an act of violence then God would no longer be PERFECT and therefore no longer God. All words/teachings in any religious book that contain violence are not the word/teachings of GOD but the word/teachings of men.

GOD IS NOT AN IRRATIONAL, IMMORAL, EVIL BEING. IF GOD IS IRRATIONAL, IMMORAL, EVIL THEN GOD IS NOT PERFECT AND THEREFORE SINCE GOD CANNOT BE IMPERFECT AN IRRATIONAL, IMMORAL, EVIL GOD IS NOT GOD

ALL TEACHINGS OF GOD – A PERFECT GOD – MUST BE PERFECT

ANY WRITINGS IN ANY RELIGIOUS TEXT THAT ARE NOT PERFECT – ARE NOT PERFECTION – ARE NOT THE TEACHINGS OF GOD BUT THE TEACHINGS OF MAN

In order for the Koran to be the word/teachings of God – every word – every teaching must be Perfect – the Perfect words and teachings of a Perfect God. If only one word is not Perfection – if only one teaching is not PERFECTION – MORAL PERFECTION then the entire Koran is not the word/teachings of God.

Koran 24.20 is not Perfect. It is not PERFECTION. It is a hateful, violent, brutal, heartless, immoral, evil teaching of an immoral, brutal, hateful, violent, heartless, evil ANTI GOD – ALLAH.

Therefore the entire Koran is not the word/teachings of God but the words/teachings of ALLAH (The ANTI GOD)- the WORD/TEACHINGS OF MUHAMMAD – who is the ANTI – GOD of ISLAM – THE ANTI RELIGION.

    Hello Dear Admn./Satyen/Readers.

Myself Amit, first time attempting to put my post on this blog, pertaining to ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ an idelogy of Hnduism.
My introduction will be amazing to you, if I say that my beloved wife
Chand Osmani, almost regular writer on this blog, prompted me to write some thing on this blog too. I am grateful to the almighty that I got her as my life partner.

Pan Indian philosophical definition of the Supreme is very simple

    ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’.
    ‘Sat’ is the true value,
    ‘Shiv’ is the good value,
    ‘Sundaram’ is the beauty value.
This value system is the foundation of Indian Aesthetics.

The history of Art in India is as old as the civilization. The first known piece of art is 30,000 year old cave paintings in Bhimbetka rock shelters in Madhya Pradesh. Then we have the Indus valley civilization and the age of Aryans putting a very strong foundation for the development of a plethora of art forms: Literature – Vedas,Ramayana, Mahabharatha, Music – SamaVeda hymns, Sculpture – Harappan stone and bronze idols to Ellora caves to Taj mahal, Painting – Ajanta caves, Dance- Bharata Muni’s Natyashastra the list goes on.

If this was the art of the learned and the urbanised, the folk and tribal art from the rural and analphabetic in India took on different manifestations through varied medium such as pottery, painting, metalwork, dhokra art, paper-art, weaving and designing of objects such as jewelry and toys.

The most important characteristics of Indian aesthetics is that there was no break inspite of the volatile socio-political and religious history. Art never suffered and was given the utmost priority by all successive rulers be it the Guptas, Chalukyas, Hoysalas, Rajputs and the Mughals.

Art in India was not a matter of sensuous enjoyment, nor a luxury to be enjoyed by the rich or the rulers and certainly not to amuse oneself! But had a deeper meaning and objective.

Indian artists were not concerned with the illusion of space and use of perspective as their western counterparts. Instead the emphasis was on expressing philosophical and religious concepts through a complex language of images and symbols. The artists emphasized on bringing the Gods (considered as the source of knowledge, power and wisdom) nearer to us by working along the ‘beauty’ aspect of the Gods.

Ancient sculptures of statues of a king or a saint is not merely to give a portray of some dramatic action or to be a character portrait in a scene, but to personify rather a soul state or experience. This is what we find in the great Buddhas or the Natarajas. The figure of Buddha expresses the infinite in a finite form, limitless calm or Nirvana in human form. The Nataraja expresses the majestic, pure calm and forceful control, dignity and kingship of existence. The pose is symbolic of the spirit of the cosmos. The cosmic dance of Shiva expresses cosmic movement and delight and every posture brings out significance, intensity and fullness of the movement.
Art in India was not a matter of sensuous enjoyment, nor a luxury to be enjoyed by the rich or the rulers and certainly not to amuse oneself! But had a deeper meaning and objective.
This is true even to the Indo-Muslim architecture. Sri Aurobindo points out in regard to the Taj Mahal, – “ The Taj is not merely a sensuous reminiscence of an imperial armor or a fairy enchantment hewn from the moon’s lucent quarries but the eternal dream of a love that survives death.”

The soulful renderings of Raga Megh Malhar by Miyan Tansen, bringing down the rains and starting fires with the legendary Raga Deepak and the ability to bring wild animals to listen with attention (or to talk their language) can be pushed aside as legends but the trans effect it has cannot be negated. Kathakali, Yakshagana & Burra khata have been in parallel enthralling the rural section.

Man is considered miniature God with Divine abilities, but is oblivious of this knowledge. Man through ‘Srabana’ or Education, ‘Manana’ or Experience and Conceptualization and ‘Sadhana’ or Practice through the different stages of life (Ashramas) realizes the 3 – value system of Satyam Shivam Sundaram to create the Magic. As aptly define by Gurudev Rabhindranath Tagore, “What is Art? It is the response of Man’s creative soul to the call of the Real.”

This journey of aesthetics is a devotional journey towards Ultimate Reality with the sole purpose of merging with the Supreme ! The Indian Art is idealistic, mystic, symbolic and transcendental. The Indian artist is both Priest and Poet.

Through the ages, Indian art has managed to overcome all the external influences and litmus tests and has managed to retained the effervescence of the value system. The Indian philosophy of Art, Religion and Spirituality goes hand in hand. As aptly put by the adherents, ‘it is a traditional way of life’. Art turned inward is Religion, Religion turned outward is Art and the inward realization is Spirituality.

Hope I could put some relevant points on this issue.
Thanks for sparing your time to read.

    With due regards,

      Dear Amitji,

I agree with you that you have got a wonderful wife and we have got an altruist as well as rationally thinking Interfaithshaadi family member in the form of Chand Osmani ji. Similarly, she has also elected an excellent husband and brought you here to contribute for the good of youths contemplating to marry with somebody following different faith. Problem is the willing partners are love lorn and don’t see the cons before they are neck deep in love. This puts them in a very precarious condition and many times they fall prey to ill informed decision.

Probably, you duo can go a long way in helping them out.

  • May 25, 2013 4:53 am

    Dear readers,Admn.Satyenji,

I am Chand Osmani, (https://www.interfaithshaadi.org/?p=2002) married with a Hindu husband, occasionally giving updates on islamic matters. As a special blog about religious matters both Hinduism and Islam, Iam describing most prominent feature of Hinduism Satyamev Jayate, its origin and importance worldwide.

Satyamev Jayate (सत्यमेव जयते) is a Hindu Sanskrit mantra from Mundokapanishada, which means “Truth Alone Triumphs.” It is also the national motto of India. The national emblem of India is four lions facing the four directions and Satyamev Jayate inscribed below it. It is also inscribed on one side of Indian currency including notes and coins.

The full mantra is as follows:

    Satyameva Jayate Naanritam
    Satyena Pantha Vitato Devayanah
    Yena Aakramanti Rshayo Hi Aaptkaamaa
    Yatra Tat Satyasya Paramam Nidhaanam

The meaning of the mantra is as follows:
    Truth alone triumphs; not falsehood.
Through truth the divine path is spread out by which
The sages whose desires have been completely fulfilled,
Reach where that supreme treasure of Truth resides.

Satyameva Jayate (Truth alone triumphs) is the national motto, accepted by both government and the people of India constitutionally. The origin of the motto is a well-known mantra 3.1.6 from the Mundaka Upanishad. The full mantra is as follows: Satyena panth vitato devay na | yen kramanty ayo hy ptak m , yatra tat satyasya parama nidh nam. The meaning of this mantra is “Truth alone triumphs; not falsehood. Through truth the divine path is spread out by which the sages whose desires have been completely fulfilled, reach where that supreme treasure of Truth resides.” Upanishadic mantra realized by ancient rishis of India thousands of years ago, has now become a motto of the nation.

The Mundaka Upanishad belongs to the Atharva Veda and has three chapters, each of which has two sections. Mundak is derived from the root mund, to shave, as he that comprehands the teaching of the Upanisad is shaved or liberated from error and ignorance. The Upanishad states clearly the distinction between the higher knowledge of the Supreme Brahman and the lower knowledge of the empirical world. It is by this higher wisdom and not by sacrifices or worship that one can reach Brahman. Only the sanyasin, who has given up everything can obtain the highest knowledge.

What are Upanishads? Upanishads are the foundations on which the beliefs of millions of human beings are based. The Upanishads, though remote in time from us, are not remote in thought. They disclose the working of the primal impulses of the human soul which rise above the differences of race and the geographical position. Dara Shikoh, son of Shah Jahan (of Taj Mahal fame) translated the Upani-shads, into Persian directly from Sanskrit and called it Sirr-e-Akbar, “Gods most Perfect Revelation,” which was translated into Latin by Anquetil Duperron under the title Oupnekhat — This translation was introduced to Western readers. “From every sentence of the Upanishads deep, original, and sublime thoughts arise, and the whole is pervaded by a high and holy and earnest spirit,” said German philosopher Arthur Schopen-hauer, one of the greatest philosophers of 19th century. He further said: “In the whole world there is no study so beneficial and so elevating as that of the Upanishads. They are destined sooner or later to become the faith of the people. It has been the solace of my life — it will be the solace of my death.”

French philosopher Amaury de Riencourt says: “There can be no doubt that the Upanishads are based on the most profound study and understanding of human nature ever achieved, one with which we twentieth century Westerners, in spite of our vast present day knowledge, have not yet fully caught up.”

Robert Earnest Hume, American Sanskritist, who taught in India and at Oxford wrote: “In the long history of man’s endeavor to grasp the fundamental truths of being, the metaphysical treatises known as the Upanishads hold an honored place. They are replete with sublime conceptions and with intuitions of universal truth. The Upanishads undoubtedly have great historical and comparative value, but they are also of great present-day importance. It is evident that the monism of the Upanishads has exerted and will continue to exert an influence on the monism of the West; for it contains certain elements, which penetrate deeply into the truths which every philosopher must reach in a thoroughly grounded explanation of experience.”

Paul Deussen, a disciple of Arthur Schopenhauer, and a scholar of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, said: “Whatever may be the discoveries of the scientific mind, none can dispute the eternal truths propounded by the Upanishads. Though they may appear as riddles, the key to solving them lies in our heart and if one were to approach them with an open mind one could secure the treasure as did the Rishis of ancient times.”

The motto of the Czech Republic and its predecessor Czechoslovakia, Pravada vítzí (Truth Prevails) has a similar meaning. Did ancient Vedic teaching go to Europe?

    With regards.

    Dear GIG,

You have brought up the essence of Hinduism i.e. Monotheism/Pantheism and has praised Swami Dayananda who always said spade a spade irrespective of its outcome. He was certainly an enlightened saint as he saved the life of the cook who caused his death! In this respect, he was like Christ to forgive his own murderer!
I recommend you to go through ‘Satyarthaprakash’ written by Swami Dayananda that created a flutter among the traditional Hindus and the Muslims alike.

I agree with you whatever you have written regarding the Hinduism. But probably like others, you are not aware that Hindus had developed a unique method to preserve the Vedas and hence the Vedas are still in their pristine form! See the following how it has been carried on for ages:

      Satyen,
Yes I have heard a lot about Satyartha Prakash and when I get time inshaAllah I will read it someday. What you have mentioned about preserving the Veda might be true but the only argument I have about it is that its not what is being preached today. As far as I know Hinduism has stressed mainly on attaining spiritual peace and the practices happening today are very far from them, yes it has evolved in the sense that orthodox practices like sati have been outdone but some practices, rituals sand superstitions are still followed which were don’t conform to the teachings of the Vedas.

        Dear Sister GIG,

Thanks for praying for my well being. With the God’s grace, I am safe and sound and going higher up in my professional career. As you have Hindu background, you must be knowing we believe in ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’ i.e. the whole world is a family. So, I believe that even after accepting Islam as you guiding force, you would be praying for the good of all the human beings in addition to me.

As you have responded to my first set of questions, let’s go a bit in depth to have a better understanding. What amenities will be provided specific to men and specific to women in the paradise? Can you elaborate it in a little detail?

      • May 25, 2013 9:04 pm

Agree to GIG that today’s Hinduism focuses too much on rituals and less on deep teachings. However, like Swami Vivekananda, one could practice Hinduism the way one desires, meaning reduce rituals and increase spiritual work.

Rituals are also there is Islam. Bowing to Kaaba five specified times a day is nothing but rituals. One could focus on Allah even without such rituals.

Well, what is wrong with rituals and idolizing (like Muhammad) if that work for one? Let people follow their faith the way they like, as far as they do good karma on this world.

I am surprised to see the vast and in depth knowledge of a few commentators regarding Hinduism, irrespective of their religion of birth. They are the saints and prophets of Hinduism as there is no qualification except for having a love filled heart to become a prophet in Hinduism. There have been people spreading the love and divinity in this world and will continue henceforth for the endless period. Everybody is qualified to become a prophet as long as He/She loves the God known by various names, with all His/Her creations or forms without any discrimination.

    Keep up the good work.

Krinvanto vishvamaryam – make the whole world enlightened

    Respected Salmaji,

You have gone in depth of Hinduism’s ethos which many people don’t understand. If your guiding philosophy is what you have described, you are a Hindu as mind is closer to your self than this physical body which we cast at the end of our life. So, Hindus life before liberation (Mukti)is a long journey and the various births are stations in this journey. Mind is a constant companion in this voyage. Moreover, our lives are guided by our value system which in your case is Hinduism in its pristine form. So you are in fact a Hindu in true senses even in this birth.

I request you to inculcate these sublime value systems to the people all around you, not to multiply the numbers of Hindus but to make the world a better place to live in for next generations.

    Krinvanto Vishvamaryam – Swami Dayananda

    Make this world civilized

      Salmaji and Satyanji,
      Excellent points.

Like Satyanji said, Hindus don’t have any gain by recruiting others to Hindu-fold. However, we are curious for Salmaji’s statement, “I could not join Hinduism. But I have a great respect for this religion.“ and wondering why she wrote it this way? It is because fear of declaring apostasy could bring more trouble at home?

For this world it is important how one lives life, and not what religious “label” or “color” or “height” one carries. For example, SD and GIG both are exceptionally great human beings. GIG was born with a “Hindu” label and now changed it to “Muslim” label. On the other hands, SD was born “Hindu”, changed it to “Muslim” just to please the Muslim guy and now will soon “formally” change it back to “Hindu” label.

It is possible one day GIG may change her mind again and become a “Christian” or “Buddhist” or “atheist”. Why Allah would care what “label” GIG carrys or what direction and time GIG bow when praying to HIM/HER, as far as she is a good human being?

Why Allah would care for one’s label and not his/her KARMA? Why Allah will ignore Gandhiji and Mother Teresa’s KARMA and send them to Hell Fire because they do not carry “Muslim” label?

Religions have created enough troubles in this world and millions have been killed in the name of God. Why we need to follow religiously the book(s)? Instead, why not learn from all religions and books? Why not take children to a Mosque on Friday, a temple on Saturday and a church on Sunday? Take the best from all and leave the rest for others.

We have read the Koran, Bible, Torah and Geeta. We see values in all of these but do not wish to get BOXED into one of these. We work restlessly here to help youths without any expectation for name, fame or money. After all these, if the Father God or Allah don’t “save” us or give us the Hell Fire, we will be more than happy to accept the Hell Fire. Humanity is God, not these labels (BBS, Brahmin, Vaishnav); and if the “label” is important for a God, we don’t give a damn!

      Salmaji,
You are reluctant calling yourself a “Hindu”, but in practice and belief you are just like your ancestors. Instead of locking yourself into an odd-shaped-black-box called “religion”, would you rather call yourself a Dharmic (nothing to do with Hinduism)? For more clarity on being a Dharmic, read Rajiv Malhotra.

GIG, do you believe in doing good Karma in this life?
GIG, do you believe Allah cares for good karma; more than the Muslim Shahadah “label”? Which one of two is more important to Allah?
GIG, are you a Dharmic-Muslim or only a Muslim as defined by Swami-Muhammadji?

        Dear admin,
for your 2nd Q you will find my answer in my reply to Satyen, whereas about good karma, its important to be noted that good karma is preached in every religion even in Islam, it is what we think will get approval of God.
But good karma comes from good intention and intention comes from the heart and not just by showing it. The point is that may be a person does something that is considered bad in ignorance but his intentions were clean so Allah will not judge him for his bad deeds but his bad or good intention
And it is only Allah who will know the intention and not us humans. we can only judge a good deed from bad but we can’t judge a good intention from bad. This is an actual extension of good karma, otherwise bad people will get away by just helping the poor or doing charity and on the other hand doing injustice to many others

Thirdly, I would consider myself muslim only, I think we should not go into making divisions in our belief. I understand my belief today more than I ever understood, so its natural that you asked the third question. I guess its just being exposed to different religions thats the reason for it, that we converts are privileged to have

    Dear all,

I request all not to use any expletives/vulgar words against anyone. I understand the anger of many of you who have passed through miserable and traumatic periods of life due to an ideology propagated by a person known as Muhammad, please be humane and rational in responding to others. We all suffer due to ignorance, nothing else. So let’s all enlighten ourselves to make all happy with no barriers in between.

Demolishing the heap of ignorance and lighting the lamp of knowledge to remove the miseries of everybody’s life is our goal.

Let’s all behave as family members, not as foes with drawn swords.

    Dear sister GIG,

I am so thankful to you that you have agreed to enlighten the persons with little knowledge of Islam in a dignified way. I consider myself a seeker of ultimate truth and open to anybody who likes meaningful discussion impartially. Like SD, you have background of both, Hinduism and Islam, you are more suited to me from my perspective.

I am a slow creature and at a critical juncture of my life. So bear with me if I move with a snails pace.

Let me start with the first question:

What will you or any Muslim woman per se, get in the afterlife by following Islam truthfully?

What is the greatest SIN according to Islam that somebody can do in this life that will not be pardoned by Allah?

Take your time and please enlighten me at your convenience.

    Hari OM Tat Sat.

      Dear Satyen,

Glad to see people sincerely trying to know about Islam. I will always be here to help. May be Allah has granted my prayer :), also inshaAllah I hope you will successfully overcome the critical juncture. Anyways answering your questions which I am familiar too because I have had the same doubts when I was doing my own research. So I will try to answer yours in what I have understood

1)Firstly when God revealed the Quran, it was for both men and women(i.e the whole mankind) calling out to His believers and not men in particular
So when any muslim be it me or anyone else, if follows Islam properly then will be granted paradise but most importantly have the approval of their Creator, which is what is mainly taught to be achieves and paradise is just a reward (but striving for paradise is not acceptable what is acceptable is winning paradise with good deeds). Because there is an afterlife, and most of the religions do believe in after life (even Hinduism)but the concept of afterlife is only clearly mentioned in the Quran (Isn’t it logical that if there is a heaven and hell, there are going to be conditions to achieve it)

2)The biggest sin that can’t be forgiven is Shirk i.e polytheism
To say the least even I was astonished at this before thinking how could the murderers and terrorist get away but not nice polytheists.
But the answer to this is that Allah is not unjust to anyone. Allah has said that if He wishes He will forgive any sin if someone repents it but not shirk. The reason is that when you do injustice to someone it is another human(it may or may not be forgiven) but in shirk you are doing injustice to your Creator and being ungrateful to Him, because he has not made you in vain and there is a reason you are here, life is a small test. Here are some verses to confirm that:

Verse 23:115 Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?”
75:36 Does man think that he will be left neglected
23:117 And whoever invokes besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof; then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely, disbelievers will not be successful
25:21 And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?” They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence.

    Hi readers,

I am from Khupwara, Kashmir, India.

Police in Handwara have arrested a man on the charges of raping his minor sister-in-law.

The accused, father of four children, Muhammad Amin Sheikh son of Ghulam Muhammad Sheikh of Behnipora Rajwar was arrested after 15-year old girl gave birth to a male neonate in a Srinagar hospital on January 8, sources told Greater Kashmir.
They said the victim in her statement to police alleged that the accused (brother-in-law) drugged and raped her for about 40 days at his home. The accused had brought his sister-in-law to his home for performing household chores as his wife had delivered a male-baby in second week of April in 2012.
“For about six weeks, he drugged and raped the minor girl two to three times each night. The girl complained of pain in belly time and again, when she reached back home. She could not urinate in the fourth month of her pregnancy as we were totally unaware of what had happened to her,” brother of the victim stated in written complaint to police.
SP Handwara Chowdary Muhammad Aslam said: “We have arrested the accused. He confessed to have committed the crime, and an FIR under sections 376 has been registered against the accused.”
Family members of the victim took her to doctors at sub-district hospital Zachaldara, where doctors suggested an Ultra Sonography (USG). “We were shocked to know that the test showed minor girl had conceived for about four months. The doctors warned that any attempt to abort the unborn child would put the minor girl’s life at risk,” said her brother Feroz Ahmad.
On the advice of doctors, the girl was finally admitted to a Srinagar hospital, where she delivered a male baby after a caesarian. “We are in shock and my daughter is in extreme stress. Now most
people in our locality know about this beastly act of my son-in law. I appeal police to prepare a strong case against him so that he is sentenced for life or hanged. He has committed an inhuman act and deserves a stringent punishment,” said her father.

    Tenali and GIG,

Here, one religion is claiming to be of “book” and nothing can be changed in that book now, done deal. The other is evolving with time.

If a new computer programing corporation decides to follow one or the other model for their business success, which one they should pick?
    1) Should they go by one set of SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and blindly follow? Tell employees not to question, just follow. Those who raise their head against the SOPs or ask it to be modified, gets severe punishment. Or,
    2) alternatively give a very high level guidance to their employees for overall goals and company’s targets and empower employees to do that is right in an individual situation?

None of religious books may be perfect for today’s corporation, but between Koran and Geeta, which one would be little better desirable for a corporation to learn from?

      Dear admin,

Definetly a good example. But we have to admit certain examples may not be suitable in certain cases. The question is of not which one is better than the other. Even I agree that Hinduism has a lot to teach and enlighten us because it is one of the oldest religion in the world. It is just the practices that are happening today that I want people to see which is totally against the teachings and ideals of Hinduism. We are all free to follow what we find truthful but out of a billion followers what do you do when each one has their own concept.

And I am not even saying that people should not follow their own concept (because God is such concept that even science can’t decipher) unless some truth has come to defy every concept what then?. That’s why I just want people to remove that blindfold from their eyes. Even Islam won’t benefit or loose because certain people are not following it, but what if it is the truth? I have accepted the truth and want others to at least see it without prejudice leave alone accepting it

Verse [8:8] For He has decreed that the truth shall prevail, and the falsehood shall vanish, in spite of the evildoers.

    Hi sister,

My grand father was a Hindu. I respect him and due to some social problems, I could not jon Hinduism. But I have a great respect for this religion.

The basic teachings of Hinduism include:

    Karma and Reincarnation

According to the theory of Karma ‘Every action and reaction are opposite and equal’. This law applies throughout creation and for every thought and action there is a predetermined effect. This law is intertwined with the the Hindu concept of reincarnation in which individuals are re-born after ‘death’ so as to continue their spiritual journey to God. A persons karma is ‘brought over’ from a previous incarnation as a spiritual lesson to be mastered.

    Freedom of Spiritual Practice

True Hindus are extremely tolerant of other beliefs and ideologies recognising that from a karmic point of view we are all progressing directly or indirectly towards a spiritual apotheosis.

    The necessity of seeking God

According to Hindu philosophy and teaching our manifold problems in life are the result of mistaken priorities in life. Hindus believe that God Realization is the prime purpose for our existence. Through our intimate inner contact with that spiritual essence within we learn not only HOW to exist correctly but eventually – the WHY of existence.
In God-Consciousness we learn the real values in life which promote greater wisdom, love, harmony, peace and joy. The yogi learns to rise above the delusion of materialism and realize his Oneness with the source of All things.

    To Enrich ones life

Whatever Hindu denomination, school or tradition one is a member – its surely an enriching experience – full of vibrant colour, gentle counsel, star-beams of wisdom, experiences chiselled by the ages, friendships in many guises, and the joy of inner discipline!
For the Hindu, lifes great challenge is to find that which is most enriching to the body, mind and soul.

    Promoting harmony and love

The beauty of Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma is the depth of devotion and love applied to a spiritual cause. This spiritual cause is – God-realization.
The devotee learns through yoga and meditation not only to become at peace with himself but also at peace with his Creator. Intoxicated with the divine presence a true Hindu’s only wish is to know God more deeply and to share this infinte love, joy, and wisdom with others. Even those Hindus who havent yet been blessed with experiences of supernal realms in meditation can bless others by working towards this goal in selfless service to others and by promoting greater harmony and love between other races, religions, traditions and beliefs. A Hindu sees all true religions as pathways towards the same goal.

These are a few basic teachings that come to mind and by no means exhausted – hopefully other people might add to the list and help establish a scope of simple workable teachings that others might use as a guide to Sanata Dharma.
The basic teaching of Hinduism is to fulfill ‘Dharma’ (one’s duties and act righteously). One should not ignore family (marriage, children, parents), society, country, and humanity in general. A sage when asked what the eighteen voluminous Puranas written by Sage Vedavyasa teach, replied in this way:
‘Ashtadasha puraneshu Vyasasya vachanam dwaya;Paropkaram punyaya, Papaya parapeedanam.'(In the eighteen puranas of Vedavyasa, two sentences are important; To help others is merit, sin is to trouble others.)
Hinduism does not dictate what a person should think about God, that is considered a personal view, ‘Mata’ (opinion) or ‘Pantha’ (road). That is why hindus may be polytheists, monotheists, monists, or even atheists. Even in one family, persons may hold different views. In my family, I am an atheist, but all others are polytheists.
(Note: I follow a variation of ‘Advaita’ (non-duality) which rejects the existence of God)

    Advaita ” (Non duality )”
Mean all the Universe is mere projection of GOD the Supreme Being, all the differences we see are because of our limited knowledge – Maya/Illusion.
Due to Maya we experience joy or sorrow as we tend to see external difference instead our universal oneness.
Once this illusion OR Maya is removed, we will experience the true bliss and see GOD and his existence in all the creation.
So Hindus are taught to respect all living creatures, human beings and not to harm any of them. There are different Electrical Appliance in existence, but in all of them the same electric current is flowing making them work, so too in all the creatures is mere GOD and HIS projection is working .
The ultimate goal of all living creatures according to Hinduism is this realization.
Each creature is free to choose his own path. All creatures take several births, depending on his effort, until they understand GOD and them merge with HIM .
Hinduism asks each person to make an effort to understand his real nature which is full of GOD’s Love and Bliss and ultimately merge with HIM.

    • May 24, 2013 10:19 am

      Salmaji,
Agree that all religions teaches, in your words, “GOD’s Love and Bliss and ultimately merge with HIM” and that is what GIG is impressed with. Unfortunately she is also endorsing all Swami Muhammad’s teaching including intolerant messages to non-Muslim. This is sad.

Its really sad that these people don’t want to go beyond the bashing like @Maehsh who just wants to incur hatred for Islam without even knowing much about the religion. There is a lot to Islam if only people removed the blindfold of prejudice from their eyes. It will always be in my prayer that those who sincerly want to see the truth will be shown the truth

A good moral, moderate Muslim man believes in Lying (3:28, 5:51)

A good moral, moderate Muslim man believes in Sharia Law that mandates the destruction of the Constitution and democracy/freedom – their replacement with the totalitarianism of Sharia Law. Under Sharia, there is no freedom of religion, speech, thought, press, artistic expression, no equality of peoples – a non-Muslim, a Kafir, is never equal to a Muslim, no equal rights for women, women can be beaten, non-Muslims are dhimmis, third-class citizens, there is no equal protection under Sharia for different classes of people with one set of laws for Muslim males and different laws for women and non-Muslims.

Death is the punishment for apostasy, homosexuality, mocking anything in the Quran or the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad, criticizing Islam, shari’ah law or the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad.

Any Muslim who states a preference for democracy rather than shari’ah law or questions anything in the Quran or Sunnah is a kafir (disbeliever), considered an apostate, and therefore sentenced to death.

The punishment for theft is amputation of the right hand up to the elbow. The penalty for premarital sexual intercourse is 100 lashes with a whip and one year of exile. The penalty for adultery between a married man and a married woman is 100 lashes with a whip and death by stoning.

The cold hard reality is thatOsama bin Laden and ALL The Muslim Men Killers and Murderers Are Good, Moral, Moderate, Holy Men of God Fulfilling The Divine Orders of God To Bring His Almighty Wrath To The Kafirs. They Are Following EXACTLY The Divine Teachings of The Quran and The Sunna of Prophet Muhammad. In Islam, Kafirs are sub Humans Who Can Be Exterminated, Murdered, Tortured, Terrorized, Raped, and Enslaved. These Are Not Crimes But Holy, Divine Acts Guaranteeing Accession To A Virgin Delight Paradise. The Reality is That Prophet Muhammad, Osama bin Laden and All The Other Muslim Killers and Murderers Are True, Blue, Patriotic Muslim Men Obeying The True, Blue Islam. Failure To Understand This Cold Hard Reality Will Lead To The Destruction of Our Democracy and Civilization. Its That Simple.

All Radical Muslims are so radical that they are no longer Muslims but Apostates of Islam and MUST be murdered as per Sharia Law and the Quranic verse 4:89 of God ordering their death and destruction. Therefore there are no Radical Muslims – only Moderate Muslims or Apostates of Islam (who are all dead or in hiding.)

REGARDING HINDUISM, I must say that 98% muslim of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were Hindus only about 500 years ago. They were tortured and brutually murdered and forced to convert to islam. We must be proud of our ancestors.

    The Law of Our Species

I am not a visionary. I claim to be a practical idealist. The religion of nonviolence is not meant merely for the rishis and saints. It is meant for the common people as well. Nonviolence is the law of our species as violence is the law of the brute. The spirit lies dormant in the brute and he knows no law but that of physical might. The dignity of man requires obedience to a higher law-to the strength of the spirit….
The rishis who discovered the law of nonviolence in the midst of violence were greater geniuses than Newton. They were themselves known the use of arms, they realized their uselessness, and taught a weary world that its salvation lay not through violence but through nonviolence.
    My Ahimsa
I know only one way-the way of ahimsa. The way of himsa goes against my grain. I do not want to cultivate the power to inculcate himsa…The faith sustains me that He is the help of the helpless, that He comes to one’s succour only when one throws himself on His mercy. It is because of that faith that I cherish the hope that God will one day show me a path which I may confidently commend to the people.
I have been a ‘gambler’ all my life. In my passion for finding truth and in relentlessly following out my faith in nonviolence, I have counted no stake too great. In doing so I have erred, if at all, in the company of the most distinguished scientist of any age and any clime.
I learnt the lesson of nonviolence from my wife, when I tried to bend her to my will. Her determined resistance to my will, on the one hand, and her quiet submission to the suffering my stupidity involved, on the other, ultimately made me ashamed of myself and cured me of my stupidity in thinking that I was born to rule over her and, in the end, she became my teacher in nonviolence.
The doctrine that has guided my life is not one of inaction but of the highest action.
I must not…flatter myself with the belief–nor allow friends…to entertain the belief that I have exhibited any heroic and demonstrable nonviolence in myself. All I can claim is that I am sailing in that direction without a moment’s stop.
    Character of Nonviolence
Nonviolence is the law of the human race and is infinitely greater than and superior to brute force.
In the last resort it does not avail to those who do not possess a living faith in the God of Love.
Nonviolence affords the fullest protection to one’s self-respect and sense of honour, but not always to possession of land or movable property, though its habitual practice does prove a better bulwark than the possession of armed men to defend them. Nonviolence, in the very nature of things, is of no assistance in the defence of ill-gotten gains and immoral acts.
Individuals or nations who would practice nonviolence must be prepared to sacrifice (nations to last man) their all except honour. It is, therefore, inconsistent with the possession of other people’s countries, i.e., modern imperialism, which is frankly based on force for its defence.
Nonviolence is a power which can be wielded equally by all–children, young men and women or grown-up people, provided they have a living faith in the God of Love and have therefore equal love for all mankind. When nonviolence is accepted as the law of life, it must pervade the whole being and not be applied to isolated acts.
It is a profound error to suppose that, whilst the law is good enough for individuals, it is not for masses of mankind.
For the way of nonviolence and truth is sharp as the razor’s edge. Its practice is more than our daily food. Rightly taken, food sustains the body; rightly practised nonviolence sustains the soul. The body food we can only take in measured quantities and at stated intervals; nonviolence, which is the spiritual food, we have to take in continually. There is no such thing as satiation. I have to be conscious every moment that I am pursuing the goal and have to examine myself in terms of that goal.
    Changeless Creed
The very first step in nonviolence is that we cultivate in our daily life, as between ourselves, truthfulness, humility, tolerance, loving kindness. Honesty, they say in English, is the best policy. But, in terms of nonviolence, it is not mere policy. Policies may and do change. Nonviolence is an unchangeable creed. It has to be pursued in face of violence raging around you. Nonviolence with a nonviolent man is no merit. In fact it becomes difficult to say whether it is nonviolence at all. But when it is pitted against violence, then one realizes the difference between the two. This we cannot do unless we are ever wakeful, ever vigilant, ever striving.
The only thing lawful is nonviolence. Violence can never be lawful in the sense meant here, i.e., not according to man-made law but according to the law made by Nature for man.
    Faith in God
[A living faith in nonviolence] is impossible without a living faith in God. A nonviolent man can do nothing save by the power and grace of God. Without it he won’t have the courage to die without anger, without fear and without retaliation. Such courage comes from the belief that God sits in the hearts of all and that there should be no fear in the presence of God. The knowledge of the omnipresence of God also means respect for the lives even of those who may be called opponents….
Nonviolence is an active force of the highest order. It is soul force or the power of Godhead within us. Imperfect man cannot grasp the whole of that Essence-he would not be able to bear its full blaze, but even an infinitesimal fraction of it, when it becomes active within us, can work wonders.
The sun in the heavens fills the whole universe with its life-giving warmth. But if one went too near it, it would consume him to ashes. Even so it is with God-head. We become Godlike to the extent we realize nonviolence; but we can never become wholly God.
The fact is that nonviolence does not work in the same way as violence. It works in the opposite way. An armed man naturally relies upon his arms. A man who is intentionally unarmed relies upon the Unseen Force called God by poets, but called the Unknown by scientists. But that which is unknown is not necessarily non-existent. God is the Force among all forces known and unknown. Nonviolence without reliance upon that Force is poor stuff to be thrown in the dust.
Consciousness of the living presence of God within one is undoubtedly the first requisite.
    Religious Basis
My claim to Hinduism has been rejected by some, because I believe and advocate nonviolence in its extreme form. They say that I am a Christian in disguise. I have been even seriously told that I am distorting the meaning of the Gita, when I ascribe to that great poem the teaching of unadulterated nonviolence. Some of my Hindu friends tell me that killing is a duty enjoined by the Gita under certain circumstances. A very learned shastri only the other day scornfully rejected my interpretation of the Gita and said that there was no warrant for the opinion held by some commentators that the Gita represented the eternal duel between forces of evil and good, and inculcated the duty of eradicating evil within us without hesitation, without tenderness.
I state these opinions against nonviolence in detail, because it is necessary to understand them, if we would understand the solution I have to offer….
I must be dismissed out of considerations. My religion is a matter solely between my Maker and myself. If I am a Hindu, I cannot cease to be one even though I may be disowned by the whole of the Hindu population. I do however suggest that nonviolence is the end of all religions.
The lesson of nonviolence is present in every religion, but I fondly believe that, perhaps, it is here in India that its practice has been reduced to a science. Innumerable saints have laid down their lives in tapashcharya until poets had felt that the Himalayas became purified in their snowy whiteness by means of their sacrifice. But all this practice of nonviolence is nearly dead today. It is necessary to revive the eternal law of answering anger by love and of violence by nonviolence; and where can this be more readily done than in this land of Kind Janaka and Ramachandra?
    Hinduism’s Unique Contribution
Nonviolence is common to all religions, but it has found the highest expression and application in Hinduism. (I do not regard Jainism or Buddhism as separate from Hinduism).
Hinduism believes in the oneness not of merely all human life but in the oneness of all that lives. Its worship of the cow is, in my opinion, its unique contribution to the evolution of humanitarianism. It is a practical application of the belief in the oneness and, therefore, sacredness of all life. The great belief in transmigration is a direct consequence of that belief. Finally, the discovery of the law of Varnashrama is a magnificent result of the ceaseless search for truth.
I have also been asked wherefrom in Hinduism I have unearthed ahimsa. Ahimsa is in Hinduism, it is in Christianity as well as in Islam. Whether you agree with me or not, it is my bounden duty to preach what I believe to be the truth as I see it. I am also sure that ahimsa has never made anyone a coward.
    The Koran and Non-violence
[Barisaheb] assured me that there was warrant enough for Satyagraha in the Holy Koran. He agreed with the interpretation of the Koran to the effect that, whilst violence under certain well-defined circumstances is permissible, self-restraint is dearer to God than violence, and that is the law of love. That is Satyagraha. Violence is concession to human weakness, Satyagraha is an obligation. Even from the practical standpoint it is easy enough to see that violence can do no good and only do infinite harm.
Some Muslim friends tell me that Muslims will never subscribe to unadulterated nonviolence. With them, they say, violence is as lawful and necessary as nonviolence. The use of either depends upon circumstances. It does not need Koranic authority to justify the lawfulness of both. That is the well-known path the world has traversed through the ages. There is no such thing as unadulterated violence in the world. But I have heard it from many Muslim friends that the Koran teaches the use of nonviolence. It regards forbearance as superior to vengeance. The very word Islam means peace, which is nonviolence. Badshahkhan, a staunch Muslim who never misses his namaz and Ramzan, has accepted out and out nonviolence as his creed. It would be no answer to say that he does not live up to his creed, even as I know to my shame that I do not one of kind, it is of degree. But, argument about nonviolence in the Holy Koran is an interpolation, not necessary for my thesis.
    No Matter of Diet
Ahimsa is not a mere matter of dietetics, it transcends it. What a man eats or drinks matters little; it is the self-denial, the self-restraint behind it that matters. By all means practice as much restraint in the choice of the articles of your diet as you like. The restraint is commendable, even necessary, but it touches only the fringe of ahimsa. A man may allow himself a wide latitude in the matter of diet and yet may be a personification of ahimsa and compel our homage, if his heart overflows with love and melts at another’s woe, and has been purged of all passions. On the other hand a man always over-scrupulous in diet is an utter stranger to ahimsa and pitiful wretch, if he is a slave to selfishness and passions and is hard of heart.
    Road to Truth
My love for nonviolence is superior to every other thing mundane or supramundane. It is equaled only by my love for Truth, which is to me synonymous with nonviolence through which and which alone I can see and reach Truth.
….Without ahimsa it is not possible to seek and find Truth. Ahimsa and Truth are so intertwined that it is practically impossible to disentangle and separate them. They are like the two sides of a coin, or rather of a smooth, unstamped, metallic disc. Who can say which is the obverse, and which is the reverse? Nevertheless ahimsa is the means; Truth is the end. Means to be means must always be within our reach, and so ahimsa is our supreme duty. If we take care of the means, we are bound to reach the end sooner of latter. When once we have grasped this point, final victory is beyond question.
Ahimsa is not the goal. Truth is the goal. But we have no means of realizing truth in human relationships except through the practice of ahimsa. A steadfast pursuit of ahimsa is inevitably bound to truth not so violence. That is why I swear by ahimsa. Truth came naturally to me. Ahimsa I acquired after a struggle.
But ahimsa being the means, we are naturally more concerned with it in our everyday life. It is ahimsa, therefore, that our masses have to be educated in. Education in truth follows from it as a natural end.
    No Cover for Cowardice
My nonviolence does not admit of running away from danger and leaving dear ones unprotected. Between violence and cowardly flight, I can only prefer violence to cowardice. I can no more preach nonviolence to a coward than I can tempt a blind man to enjoy healthy scenes. Nonviolence is the summit of bravery. And in my own experience, I have had no difficulty in demonstrating to men trained in the school of violence the superiority of nonviolence. As a coward, which I was for years, I harboured violence. I began to prize nonviolence only when I began to shed cowardice. Those Hindus who ran away from the post of duty when it was attended with danger did so not because they were nonviolent, or because they were afraid to strike, but because they were unwilling to die or even suffer an injury. A rabbit that runs away from the bull terrier is not particularly nonviolent. The poor thing trembles at the sight of the terrier and runs for very life.
Nonviolence is not a cover for cowardice, but it is the supreme virtue of the brave. Exercise of nonviolence requires far greater bravery than that of swordsmanship. Cowardice is wholly inconsistent with nonviolence. Translation from swordsmanship to nonviolence is possible and, at times, even an easy stage. Nonviolence, therefore, presupposes ability to strike. It is a conscious deliberate restraint put upon one’s desire for vengeance. But vengeance is any day superior to passive, effeminate and helpless submission. Forgiveness is higher still. Vengeance too is weakness. The desire for vengeance comes out of fear of harm, imaginary or real. A dog barks and bites when he fears. A man who fears no one on earth would consider it too troublesome even to summon up anger against one who is vainly trying to injure him. The sun does not wreak vengeance upon little children who throw dust at him. They only harm themselves in the act.
The path of true nonviolence requires much more courage than violence.
The minimum that is required of a person wishing to cultivate the ahimsa of the brave is first to clear one’s thought of cowardice and, in the light of the clearance, regulate his conduct in every activity, great or small. Thus the votary must refuse to be cowed down by his superior, without being angry. He must, however, be ready to sacrifice his post, however remunerative it may be. Whilst sacrificing his all, if the votary has no sense of irritation against his employer, he has ahimsa of the brave in him.
Assume that a fellow-passenger threatens my son with assault and I reason with the would-be-assailant who then turns upon me. If then I take his blow with grace and dignity, without harbouring any ill-will against him, I exhibit the ahimsa of the brave. Such instances are of every day occurrence and can be easily multiplied. If I succeed in curbing my temper every time and, though able to give blow for blow, I refrain, I shall develop the ahimsa of the brave which will never fail me and which will compel recognition from the most confirmed adversaries.
Inculcation of cowardice is against my nature. Ever since my return from South Africa, where a few thousand had stood up not unsuccessfully against heavy odds, I have made it my mission to preach true bravery which ahimsameans.
    Humility Essential
If one has…pride and egoism, there is no nonviolence. Nonviolence is impossible without humility. My own experience is that, whenever I have acted nonviolently, I have been led to it and sustained in it by the higher promptings of an unseen power. Through my own will I should have miserably failed. When I first went to jail, I quailed at the prospect. I had heard terrible things about jail life. But I had faith in God’s protection. Our experience was that those who went to jail in a prayerful spirit came out victorious, those who had gone in their own strength failed. There is no room for self-pitying in it either when you say God is giving you the strength. Self-pity comes when you do a thing for which you expect recognition from others. But there is no question of recognition.
It was only when I had learnt to reduce myself to zero that I was able to evolve the power of Satyagraha in South Africa.

      Sultana,
Even if you are copy pasting info or discussing it should be a neutral view not a biased or unjust view. But unfortunately all I see through those copy pasted materials is an incomplete knowledge that is what I am objecting to

    Dear admin,
Thanks for the effort, really look forward to mindful discussion on this post (and not copy pasted info like some posts below).

I would really like that people here ask lots and lots and lots of questions about Islam to gain knowledge and clear doubts and not just comment on things they have half information about. Because as the saying goes “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing”

    Hi readers

A great irony of the age is that the seemingly most diehard proponents of freedom—the useful idiots of our time—are the most dangerous unwitting accomplices of liberty’s enemy—Islam. Keep in mind that the very name “Islam” is a derivation of “taslim,” the Arabic word for “surrender,” surrender to the will and dictates of Allah as revealed by Muhammad and recorded in the Quran.

This non-negotiable surrender to Islam requires the individual as well as the society to disenfranchise themselves of many of the fundamental and deeply cherished human rights. Below is a brief presentation of what this surrender to Islam entails and why it is imperative that all freedom-loving people arise and defeat the menace of Islamofascism.

Amendment I of the Bill of Rights enshrines some of the most cherished ideals of freedom-loving people:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Islam considers itself the three branches of government. It enacts laws as it sees fit, adjudicates laws, and executes as it deems. Islam is anathema to the provisions of the First Amendment and much more.

    * Islam proclaims itself as the only legitimate religion for the entire world, grudgingly granting minor recognition to Judaism and Christianity from whom it has liberally plagiarized many of its dogma. Jews and Christians are allowed to live under the rule of Islam as dhimmis and must pay a special religious tax of jazyyeh. Buddhists, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Baha’is, members of other religions, agnostics, or atheists are not even allowed to live practicing their belief or disbelief.

    * Islam actively suppresses and even prohibits the practice of other religions, including those of the “people of the book,” Jews and Christians. There is not a single church or synagogue in the cradle of Islam, Saudi Arabia, while thousands of mosques dot the tolerating and welcoming non-Moslem lands. Islamic countries that allow for Jewish and Christian places of worship subject these “people of the book” to numberless subtle and not-so-subtle forms of persecution. Moslems in non-Moslem lands proselytize relentlessly and convert others while any Moslem who leaves Islam is judged as apostate and automatically condemned to death.

    * Freedom of speech is just about non-existent in Islam. The word is Allah’s, his chosen divines such as Ayatollahs and Imams are the only ones who are to make pronouncements squarely-based on Allah’s word, the Quran. Any expression in the least at deviance from the Quran, the Hadith and the edicts of Islamic high divines is heresy and severely punishable. Hence, stifling of free expression is the major mechanism by which the Islamic clergy retain power and prevent constructive change in Islamic societies.

    * Freedom of the press is completely alien to Islam, since a free press tends to express matters as it sees it, rather than as it is stated in the Quran. To Islam, the Quran is the press and the only press. There is no need for critical reporting, no need to present ideas that may conflict with the Quran, and no place for criticism of anything Islamic. The stranglehold of Islam on the individual and society is complete.

    * Peaceful assembly of the people is not allowed. The backward oppressive Islamic societies inflict great hardship on the citizenry and any assembly of the victims presents a threat to the suffocating rule. Islamic governments routinely prevent peaceful assemblies from taking place. Failing to do so, they unleash their hired thugs, the police and even the military against any assemblage no matter how peaceful and how legitimate is its grievance. The Islamic Republic of Iran which is vying with Saudi Arabia as the leader of true Islamic rule, routinely attacks any and all gatherings of its people, arrests them, imprisons them without due process, tortures them, and even executes them in secret dungeons. Journalists, academics, unionists, students, teachers, women rights groups who dare to petition the government for redress are labeled subversive and are severely punished.

Maltreatment of religious minorities and the non-religious is criminal indeed. In the Islamic Republic of Iran, for instance, the government has launched a

systematic program of genocide against its largest religious minority—the Baha’is. The government is gathering a comprehensive list of Baha’is, their occupations, locations, properties and the like—action reminiscent of the Nazis. The government is banning Baha’i students from post high-school education unless they recant their religion, deprives them of engaging in numerous forms of occupations and trades, denies them from holding worship gatherings, razes their holy places and much more. The Islamic Republic of Iran is not satisfied with its cruel treatment of the living Baha’is and has launched a war on their dead by bulldozing Baha’i cemeteries in several cities. Thus is the rule of fundamental Islamism that is awaiting the complacent and snoozing world.

    * Oppression of women in general is tragic indeed. Men are allowed to have as many as four wives simultaneously and as many concubines as they wish or can afford. Men can easily divorce their wives and automatically have the custody of the children, if they so decide. Women have subservient status to men in all areas of the law. Equality under the law has no meaning in Islam. Just one example of the dreadful way of treating women in Islam is a case of a Saudi woman who was gang-raped. The Islamic court convicted the woman to prison term and lashes for having committed the “sin” of riding in a car with a male who was not her relative. This is a standard form of Islamic Shariah justice—a savage heritage of barbarism that ruled the Arabian Peninsula some centuries ago.

    * Islam has a solution for every “problem.” It deals with homosexuals, for instance, by hanging them en mass and gloating about it, even though homosexuality is just as prevalent in Islamic lands as anywhere else. Recently an Ayatollah made a ruling on homosexuals. He said that they should be hanged and tortured before they are hanged. In Islam the rulings of high-ranking clergy constitute the law and are binding.

    * Not only Islam does not allow freedom of assembly and the press, it is intrusively restrictive in every aspects of a person’s life. The way women should dress, the haircut of men, the music people are allowed, movies to watch, television programs to view, and even parties in the privacy of their home are subject to the ridiculous monitoring of moral police. Islam is hell-bent on outward morality and puritanical conduct while it is rotten to the core just below the pretentious surface.

    * Islam segregates by gender many public places and events such as beaches, sporting venues, public transportations, and even building elevators. Families are often prevented from attending a sporting event together or swimming together at a beach.

    * Egypt, the crown of the Arab-Islam world, demands that citizens declare Islam or only one of the two other religions, Jewish and Christianity, as their religion in order to receive the government-issued identity cards. ID cards are required for jobs, healthcare, education, a marriage license and a host of other things. If you are an agnostic, an atheist, a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Baha’i, you are forced to perjure yourself to receive the indispensable ID card. In a real sense, Islam the pretender of high moral ground compels people to lie in order to receive what is their birthright as citizens.

I have been sounding the alarm about Islam’s imminent deadly threat for a number of years. The Islamic treasury flush with oil extortion money together with the help of useful idiots is having the upper hand in this battle of survival for freedom. The slaveholder Islam has been transformed into a more virulent form of Islamofascism; it is an inveterate unrelenting enemy of freedom. We need to act now and stem the tide of this deadly threat. Tomorrow may be too late. Freedom is too precious to abandon through complacency, acts of political correctness, or outright cowardice.
