I am too facing the same situation like of Divianna. In love with a marthoma guy now forcefully have to part our ways as marthoma churches doesn’t accepts inter-faith marriage. If anyone does so the entire family would be expelled from the church. It’s really hurting… After all we all are humans…y still dese rules persists… -Deepti

I don’t agree with this. If the boy or girl is Bhramin, Nair or upper caste the family usually agrees as we have upper caste origins. Unlike other Christians we stick to our culture which is deeply rooted.
Dear Deepti
Sorry to be not agreeing with you on this. Since I was a marthoma, I can clearly confirm that Marthoma church cannot refuse your marriage. The specific priest (or your boyfriends family) is mis guiding you. Just like Hindu Marriage wherein you have to covert to Hindu first , for Christian Marriage you have to convert to christianity. The church just cannot refuse marriage on any pretext. If both of you dont want to convert then go for court marriage. Even in this case Church cannot expel anybody , just because church is not owned by anybody. Only thing is that they will not accept you as a member till you will not convert. I found court marriage and christian marriage cumbersome so,I converted to Hindu and married my better half. We both follow our religions.
Anyhow just to warn you, inter faith marriage is not an easy thing. You both have to be ready to be submissive. Their may be too many issues but then your love should be above that. More issues will crop up later when you will have a child. Your religions will not allow you to live happily.

Hi,
I am a Christian Marthoma Guy and I’m in a relation with a Hindu girl. My parents have agreed for the wedding only if she converts. She has agreed on converting as well, but her family is not willing to accept it. They want us to get married in as per the Special Marriage Act as she is going to remain as a Hindu at the time of marriage and If I agree to that it is going to be without the knowledge of my parents, and then later she can convert and we both can have the ceremonial wedding in the church. I would like to know if that could be registered legally.
Thanks in Advance.

How the hell did u guys came to the conclusion of love jihad n accuse my boy friend of having known dat conversion isn’t possible n still continued to romance with me. Its not so Mr.Admin!
Sorry Deepti to hurt your feelings. We are glad he is not love-proselytizer and truly lover you.
Is he educated and capable of making good living on his own (meaning he does not have to beg to parents for making living), if this is the case, then the solution is simple. Dump the intolerant church and go marry your love by the Special Marriage Act 1954, simple! Teach a lesson to the church not to be intolerant. Why his parents want to cling to such intolerant church any ways?
Deepti,
Sorry that you are another victim of love-Jihad. We agree 100% with you on “After all we all are humans…y still these rules persists”.
The fact is that your boy friend knew this very well from the first day he met you that Marthoma-Hindu marriage is not possible. He was out to have romantic relationship and hoping that you will be a weak minded to convert. As much as it is painful, it is good to end this relationship. Actually, it is in your best long term interest that this relationship ended now, rather than after marriage and a child.
It is unfortunate that Indian media and Bollywood portrait Christianity as a religion of love and a better alternative to Hinduism. Now you see real truth of dirty Christianity. If you are still not convinced, read the Bible right here. Actually, to our experience, most Western Christians are lots more moderate compared to Indian Christian.
Can you believe that churches are teaching today that Mahatma Gandhi will not go to heaven because he was not baptized (read McKenna)? They are calling Hindus idol-worshipper while their churches are full of wood-cross-idols. Marry’s idol and Jesus’ idol. Indian Christians have retained only barbaric intolerant teaching of the Bible while many Western Christians have changed now.
Don’t be sad. Your bad dream is over now. Forget him. Enjoy your life of freedom and liberty that you always enjoyed in Hinduism. Best wishes.
