Dear Admin,
I also had the same problem with Mv. I’am Indonesian Moslem and my future wife was Indonesian Catholic. I was raised in interreligious family myself. My Father was Catholic previously and My Mother was devout Moslem. Even though my Father was converted, he doesn’t practice Islam very well (something we called “Islam KTP-Islam ID” in Indonesia). Well almost like fake convert but he doesn’t admitted it.
So when I marry, I would like stay as Moslem, and my wife also stay as Catholic either.
I will teach my Kid like when I was still a kid. Islam and Catholic had different point of view but it crave the same goal. Love. Which way they will choose, the choice is up to them and God to decide. We as parent only try our best to give a guidelines to reach their happiness.
OK that’s was our point of view as interreligious marriage.
The real question is same like Mv. Can we married at Singapore, and is our marriage will be legitimate at Indonesia? If we could have a marriage at Singapore, would our child’s be legitimate in Indonesia or not? If they can’t, then are they will be legitimate in Singapore?
Hope you could helping us. Many thanks – Yud

Dear Yud,
Please read carefully and also talk to marriage registrar office/church/Mosque to make sure.
“Another option taken is for couples to marry in an overseas country and then register the marriage under Indonesian law. The U.S. State Department’s 2009 report on religious freedom in Indonesia states:
Men and women of different religions also continued to face obstacles to marrying and officially registering their marriages.Such couples had difficulty finding a religious official willing to perform the ceremony, which is required before registering a marriage. As a result, some persons converted in order to marry. Others traveled overseas, where they wed and then registered the marriage at an Indonesian embassy.”
Let us know what you found out more.
Let us know what will you teach your children if Jesus is an ordinary apostle or the Son of God? Will the child have Sunat circumcision or Baptism? Will the child have Muslim sounding name or a Christian name? Don’t underestimate religious issues later in life. Best wishes.
